Spent the day Saturday putting duel exhaust and a performance chip on the Challenger and topped it off with a flip-top gas cap. Took off the stock mufflers and pipe, and put a flow master #430402 single in out duel, and ran pipes to the cut outs with a pair of 70 Chavell SS tips I've had for 31 years. One muffler instead of three, seems to work and sound good. I made a template and grabbed my jig-saw and in 30 minutes I hade cut outs (left the valance on the car while cutting). Installed a SLR Motorsports performance chip, they say it adds 50hp and 3 to 4 mpg to the highway mileage, not sure about the hp, I can say it adds nothing to the bottom but pulls better on top, and throttle response is quicker. Then I slapped on a flip-top gas cap, looks a lot better. Next time home i'll put on the CAI. Need to call BMC about there headers next week having problems finding a shop to install ( they state emmision issues). Here are some pics. Click on the pics.

Now that is a good day.

Nice work. Do you think the Preditor or a similar tuning computer could tweak that chip to give you some low end? I am clueless about the electronics but I have done some exhaust work and that looks killer!

How about the first (as far as I know) sound clip?

Sorry, disregard my last post. Just realized my question was covered in another thread.

A chip that gives you 50hp, hmm I have a really difficult time believing that claim !:shakehead:

Do a Google search for the SLR chip and see how many people say it's "snake oil", doesn't work !

Do a Google search for the SLR chip and see how many people say it's "snake oil", doesn't work !What you find Snake is there are very few who have used it and it's split 50/50 from what I read, and you'll find a bunch that are just stating there opinion, who have never tried it, but there is knowbody saying that they couldn't get there money back, so only if they don't return funds is it a rip off. As I stated in my post I felt no gains in hp nothing on bottom end and it seemed to pull better on top, but until a dyno test is done knowbody knows. So so far I say it dosen't work, now over the next month I'll check mpg's, right now I can get 26 hwy not sure about city, if there are mpg gains I'll keep it if not I'll return it. So the bottom line is if you don't ever try a product you will never know if something works, I'll be the guiney pig, I can't count the the dollars and time I've spent to get another 10th off my times running my drag car, speed cost money and time.

Snake oil for sure. The import world is full of that stuff.

It's your money and your choice but I went to the SLR site and it states the chip is for an 08 Challenger which would be an SRT and you put it in an SE? 50HP for $70 and it's supposed to give the same results to all cars, doesn't that sound a little far fetched to you ?

Check your air/fuel ratio.

I am in agreement with this:

The SLR chip does nothing useful for our cars.

(http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1075996#)Claims of improved performance are 99% B.S. Remember the saying, "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" ... followed very soon by "a fool and his money are soon parted."

Would the throttle-body spacer be something simular here?

I hear of a lot of hype on increased MPG and HP just by adding this little spacer after the throttlebody, or is this a hold over from the old carburator days....?

$110-$150 bucks for a spacer seems to me something simular.

Check in some of Lisa's posts in the BMC vendor section about throttle bodies. Some like them, some say they are not worth the money unless you are building the engine.

BigSnake,

I am not referring to a ported or oversized throttle body. I have watched Lisa and her documentation of the 85 MM ported throttlebody gains on the stock engine.

What I am referring to is a simple SPACER. Most are approximately 3/8 to 1/2 in thick and does nothing but "extend" the throttlebody away from the intake, or extend the carburator up from the intake manifold.

The advertised "spacing" is supposed to cause the air to "tumble" or create turbulence and give an overall better a/f ratio. If this was the case, I would think this would be designed in from the factory as this would help in MPG and performance.

But, since the factory does not do this and this is available as an "aftermarket" performance ad on, I would think it would fall into this category of snakeoil components as well?

Gotcha, I vote "snakeoil" !

You know Snake you keep posting like I'm bragging that I got 50hp and I never said that, so go back and read both post real slow, and when you get to the part where it say's nothing gained and I don't think it works read it again. I've been racing all my life starting with moto-x and then drag cars I know how to get power, I just like to see if other things work cause I don't know how to get power out of these modern motors with computers and such, when I saw nobody was complaining about not getting there money back I bought, and I have plenty of time to return it.

My point is I was trying to help you but since you already know these things I will step out ! Good luck getting any HP!

My point is I was trying to help you but since you already know these things I will step out ! Good luck getting any HP!Snake I just didn't see it that you were trying to help, I took it as you thought I was a fool. So I apologize for the my mistake, I will always welcome your help. I joined this site because of people like you and others that seem to have a lot of fun and know what time it is when dealing with these new cars, I don't know a whole lot about them, everything seems to be attached to a sensor and a computer. I was just trying to test a product that so far seems not to do anything, the pull I feel like I got on the top-end could be related to me freeing up the exhaust, but when you do two mods at once you can credit the wrong one. The stress that I've taken on working out of state 30 days at a time and comming home for 4 or 5 is starting to wear on me and causes me to be a little short at times, please except my apology. So keep doing what you've been doing for the board. I gotta go I have a 5:27 flight back to Texas today.
