Has anyone on here installed grill or hood lighting?
I got the inserts to make the hood functional, and wanted to back light them with blue leds
also have some cold cathodes for the grill but have not figured out hoe to get behind the grill yet
any tips?

I'd be careful using blue or red LEDs. You might want to check the local laws to see what is allowed. There are concerns about being mistaken for an emergency vehicle. I know in Texas there are limitations to how you can display red or blue lights.

Man so sorry to take so long getting back to this, the charger forums keep me pretty busy Donna holds up the chally side aka Pirates girl

We ended up not using the ccfl lights in her grill.
I am working on a prototype display that simulates reflected water ripples behind the grill.
we are doing both our rides with a pirate theme.
so far I have 10 3 led strips wired to a rgb sequencer set behind rippled plastic.
it is not bright enough with the current configuration so I will be adding 10 more led strips
then doing the same to the charger
will post some pics and video when done

That is soo badass!!! How did you wire it up? Your cars both the Challenger and the Charger would definitely get my vote.

not difficult at all. Just remember anytime you add lights put them on a separate circuit with a fuse.
never wire into existing light circuits, you can fry a computer that way.
these are attached to the inner ducts, wires were ran across the hood and down the hinge where the washer tubes run.
then I wired them to a remote control relay on a fused circuit. She turns them on and off using a remote.

It looks good for sure!!! Is there a step-down transformer involved? What kind of voltage do the lights take? Did it come as a kit or did you go to radioshack? Sorry for all the questions. Ohh...and the sidemarkers for your charger are pretty cool too.

check out oznium.com
the led strips are 12 volt no need for resistors or transformers
just straight line voltage on a isolated fused circuit right off the battery posts under the hood

I'm in the process of getting my Halos... they are being built as we speak! :smiley_thumbs_up:

What color are your halos?? I think your idea about the Dragon is awesome!!!! Very unique. :)

Now that I have all my other lighting done... the white Halos, (NOT LED's) will tie it all together!

I had a '72 Satellite Sebring that I customized back in '80 and put on a big block Challenger hood. I had yellow plexi lenses and some small lights in the scoops. Unfortunately, I've got no pics at all of that car.

I wanted to PM Pirates Girl about those hood scoop lights, but there's a restriction on this site that you can't PM anyone until you post 25 messages (what a pain). Glad you finally posted some info and pics - really nice!

Not sure if I mentioned earlier.... I have an LED controller that allows me to control the speed and pattern of the LED's. Pretty cool... especially since we want the "Water effect." ARRRR! lol

Well, we have to switch over to new controllers... its not quite giving Mr. Pirate the effect that he wants. But when that's done, before Hot Springs, (I hope) I'll post ip a vid. I pinky swear! ;)

electricgeek.... our grill lighting isn't exactly how we want it both- neither in the Charger nor my Challenger.

We just ordered 2 new controllers that will hopefully give us the effect we're shooting for. The Pirate just isn't happy with the outcome. But, I pinky-swear, when we get it right, we'll post up a vid!

I will have 8 channel random flashes soon applied to the 21 different led banks
it is my hope that that much randomness will actually create a water effect behind the grill

He's been working on my grill lights a little bit each night this week... the new "10" channel controllers seem to be giving him the "water effect" we were looking for.

He just made the comment that this is it... after they go in THIS TIME... they're staying!!

Such tedious work!!! Hope to have a video for you... providing they are finished this weekend!

For the "Pirates at Sea" (water effect)... we have come as close as the Captain can.

The grill lighting consists of:
10 channels on a lighting effects generator powering 21 LED strips (3 LEDs per strip) totalling 63 individual LEDs

Now that he is done with the Charger, the Challenger is next. We're going to try a few white, perhaps aqua to see what kind of reflection it will give.

But the inserts do send some cool breezes to the beasty below the hood

You can get to the top grill by removing the 2 plastic covers underneath the hood. They are 2 pieces right behing the bumper and simply pop up starting from the center back and work your way towards the fenders. I've not not gone beyond that point as I'm not sure where to mount the lights.

Ok I just got my Oracle 15" Neon tubes and they do not fit in the upper grill. From what I can see is there is only room for 2 12" tubes side by side. So I guess I'll order a set of these. So now I'm planning to mount the 15's in the bottom grille. I was going to drill in the metal bumper support but my drill won't quote reach up there between the bumper cover and the radiator. Also I don't believe the 2 self adhesive pads will stay put for any lenght of time especially when they are hanging upside down. Can anyone recommend where and how the mounted theirs?
Also any recommendations for the top grill lights would be great to!
