I have a plan in my mind right now, nothing concrete. It would be very easy for me to hop on I-64 to the south tip of Illinois then turn north! LOL

My bad, the last smoothbores were .69 caliber, model 1842 Springfield. The 1855 Springfield was a .58 caliber, rifled. This model was improved during the war but the bore remained the same. The Confederates were using the rifled .577 caliber Enfields model 1853 (the second most widely used weapon after the Springfield) but also used several others down to a .54 caliber. I was working on memory in the previous post, a mistake as you can see...LOL

Even worse...The union was using a .64 cal bullet and the Confederates were using a .58 cal. They also fought face to face, one line shooting at the enemy's line...it was butchery and bravery all at once. For any man to have survived combat was like winning the lottery.

You're welcome...this period of time fascinates me to no end. This Friday and Saturday, I'm going to a local farm to photograph a WWII reenactment. I can't wait!
