I went to a Dodge dealer in Maryland and inquired about a 2010 Challenger RT. I saw two on the lot. A silver and black with the appearance package and pretty well optioned. The black one was $41,000 and the silver one was $38,000.00. I told the dealer that my wife gets the associate discount (one percent below invoice). Which the dealer stated will save me around $2,300.00 plus the $1,000.00 incentive. I was then told that I would have to pay a $75.00 administrative fee along with the discount. Is that true? My gut feeling is telling me to go to another dealer. I didn't think that they were that expensive.

If I am reading this right, the Silver one would end up at just under $35,000. I don't think that is bad for a brand new 2010 RT.

A loaded RT does come out over $41k. My '09 was around $39,900 with all '09 options (paid $37,200- not bad at that time: mar '09). '10 models offer even more stuff.....
Doesn't sound like a bad deal..... $75 fee is up to dealer.... (if they don't charge it, I bet the dealer owner/GM will take it out of sales managers gross)

Administrative fees are straight profit.

$75.00 is a very cheap Admin Fee.

Actually the way it works is this: Beginning with 2010 models, the $75.00 admin fee is part of the Employee Advantage and Friends Price. So those do not require the $75.00 admin fee, but associates, affiliates and dealer employees do.
What happens is that when they reimburse the dealer, they deduct the $75.00 admin fee on the assumption that your dealer collected it from you as the program states. That means it comes directly out of the dealer gross. While it is in fact a dealer to dealer option that they collect it, the program clearly states that the dealer is to collect it. Not doing so gives the appearance of undercutting what is supposed to be an identical transaction from dealer to dealer for identically priced cars. Most likely, you ask for it...but I would not waste the time in gas and phone calls to save $75.00 if it's the car I want.
