General Information

Located in eastern Kankakee County, Illinois, and approximately 50 miles south of Chicago, Momence is a quiet, friendly community of 3300 residents, nestled along the Kankakee River. Historic Dixie Highway (Illinois Route 1) is the main north-south thoroughfare through the city. The City was established in 1834, and over the years, many organizations and individuals have worked to maintain its historic architecture - both commercial and residential.

August brings the annual Gladiolus Festival which has been held each year since 1938. The 4-day event features 3 parades, a carnival, an large antique car show, and a giant flea market, as well as children's activities and concerts. The activities are held throughout the city.

Momence is also where I traveled weekly for practices during my Junior and Senior years in high school as a member of the White Tornado's Junior Drum and Bugle Corps. Our corps group traveled throughout the Midwest during the summer months competing in VFW and American Legion drum corps contests and practically lived on the bus they used to haul us around in to competitions.

The photo's below were taken at Momence's Island Park which is by the Kankakee River. This location is also where the Annual Gladiolus Festival Antique Car Show is held.
