It’s taking a while for this to sink in. I’ve looked at the list of MOTM winners. The people on that list are the pillars of this Forum. I am both honored and humbled to be in such elite company. I would like to congratulate all of this month’s nominees and thank everyone who voted. It is your knowledge, interest, enthusiasm and willingness to share that makes this Forum the best Challenger Forum on the web. My love affair with the Challenger began in college. My boyfriend at the time was into Mopars and I often helped him work on his 340 Duster. One of his friends had just finished restoring a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, 440 Six Pack, Hemi Orange, black vinyl roof. The license plate read: “SIX PACK.” I have been in love with the Challenger ever since. At that time, I didn’t have a driveway or a garage and with on street parking, cars had to be practical and disposable. So muscle cars took a back seat to life, but I never forgot it. 20 something years later, I’m living outside of Key West. My husband and I had been talking about rebuilding a classic muscle car, but after Hurricane Wilma, we decided that under our house was not a good place for a car that was in the middle of being a project. I continued to search cars on the web and then one day - pictures of the Challenger Concept Car. Like so many here, I promised myself one would be mine if it went into production. I’ll tell you a little secret – when I first saw the new Challenger, I wanted Hemi Orange. Not being able to pull the trigger right away gave B5 time to work its magic. Finally, in August 2009 the stars aligned. When I walked into the dealership to ask about ordering a Challenger – it was kismet - they had a B5 SRT on order in “C” status. For those of you who ordered your Challengers– you know the agony of waiting, the anticipation, the excitement when the order changes status, the elation when you get that call from the dealer and the passion that driving that car evokes. I found the “Z” thanks to my neighbor, who owns a 2009 BB Challenger SRT. I checked the forum out and immediately felt comfortable. Between August 18, when I made the down payment and November 21, when I took delivery, the “Z” was my rock. I was so envious of those of you who already had your Challengers, but I wouldn’t have wanted to miss one minute of the whole process. I owe all of you a debt of gratitude for keeping me sane - for being there when I needed a “Challenger fix.” Through this forum, I bonded with my Challenger long before its parts hit the assembly line. It’s hard to put the feeling I get driving my Challenger into words, but each and every one of you knows what I mean. Last but certainly not least, I have found kindred spirits here who share the passion that is the Challenger, whether it’s a first generation or the modern version. These wonderful individuals are willing to extend themselves to virtual strangers, all in the name of a common interest. It is this quality in the membership that makes the “Z” a family and the forum itself greater than the sum of its parts.
