I've heard it asked and in fact wondered about it myself more than a few times, should you supercharge your R/T or trade in for a 392 Hemi. Well I'm not sure this answers any of that but does make for an interesting drag race.
Dodgeboy (Alan) and I met up back in the spring for a bit of drag racing fun at Beaver Springs Dragway in central PA. It was a nice day with a DA of 1,425. Alan and I each were running drag radials, the only other mod on my 392 Challenger was a diablo canned 93 octane tune. Alan's R/T is an automatic, running 3.73 gears, 2,800 stall converter and a Magnacharger.
Here's the run, ignore Alan's red light as it doesn't effect the actual quarter mile times run by the cars. The interesting thing to me was how close the run was with only .006 of a second separating the cars and .34 mph. Final times were SRT 12.429 @ 111.56 mph vs the R/T's 12.435 @ 111.12 mph. It sure made for a great race and I'm looking forward to doing it all again in the spring.
