Being an IT person, I contacted Dodge with questions about the limits of the SD Card. Some of you may know that simply putting 2500 songs on a card will not typically work. I have a 2016 SXT Plus.

When I spoke with them, they stated 32G Maximum, Class 2-8, Max 256 Folders on Root, Max 2500 Songs.

Knowing technology, I decided to go off the reservation and purchased a SanDisk Ultra 32GB Class 10 card from Amazon for $11.00 SDSDUNC-032G-GN6IN. No way a faster card was not going to work and it could only be better since the transfer rates are much higher.

So I created a car library and converted all the songs to 320k Sample Rate, most were already at 320k, but I wanted to have a high quality MP3 card. I currently have 200 Folders on the Root and over 2700 songs. The card loads up almost immediately.

Playlists created with Windows Media Player 12.0.9 or higher are fully compatible. I used a free tool called MP3 Quality to bring all songs up to 320k and MusicBranz Picard to make sure all the songs had the latest metadata and ID3 Tags which basically confirms all the artwork is part of the actual MP3 file.

Folders off the Root were based upon the ARTIST NAME and all search, playlist and browsing functionality works perfectly. What is the point to streaming Bluetooth audio from your phone? What is the point to streaming using your data?

The only time I am using Bluetooth Audio is when I am in full navigation mode. I also have a similar song list on my phone, using Bluetooth Audio, I stream my Music, I have Google Maps running, which gives me the Audio Turn By turn, which interrupts as needed to give me instructions. I also have my Beltronics Smart Radar, which also has an app that talks to you. I simply put my phone inside the center console, connect it to the USB port for charging purposes, connect the Radar Detector and smart cable. All things important simply talk to me and interrupt the music as needed.

Also, if you are curious, I use an Andriod App for Music called Rocket Player by JRT Studios. It has many features, but the most important being control of what happens when a notification from another app occurs. That, combined with a Voice Setting in Google Maps allows all of this to happen perfectly and allows you to control the volumes of the 3 devices that are running simultaneously.

So basically, when I am driving around town and know where I am going, I listen to the SD card, since it is the highest quality and when on a trip where I don't know where I am going, I go Bluetooth with the apps described and simply listen to instructions from Google Maps and the Beltronics/Escort Radar app.

Have Fun.

How do I check the version of Windows Media Player? Windows 8...
Simply launch the application and click Help from the Menu. Scroll to the bottom and select the submenu option "About Windows Media Player". The version window will then pop up:

I did almost the same thing. I bought the SanDisk Ultra Fit CZ43 32GB USB 3.0 Low-Profile Flash Drive Up To 130MB/s Read- SDCZ43-032G-G46 [Older Version]. I copied over my entire library of MP3 music files (4700+ songs). Knowing the limitations of the UConnect, I was hoping to get maybe half, but to my surprise, all 4700 songs are available on the flash drive!

I have a 32gb thumb drive that I also have laid out in folders. Mostly artist names and some as OHW (One Hit Wonders)
My problem is some folders are large and slow transfer speed to the HDD is taking forever. I'm thinking about an HDD erase and recompile the 32gb usb drive in genre folders with artist names as sub folders.... Frustrating for an old retired SAN engineer

Just thought of a question... Since my transfer speed seems so slow , I drove to Alabama and that trip only went 50% complete before I reached my destination(2.5 hrs). Is there a way to transfer faster or have the radio on without leaving the key in ACC so to speak? If the transfer is stopped and restarted seems it starts over and duplicates folders/songs????

Just a heads up, if you use a formatting application different then the default windows one, you can format any size SD card to work with the stereo. I currently have a 64gb in my car to fit all of my music. Simply format the SD as a FAT32 instead of the default exFAT that windows will try to and you should be good to go

Great post, saved me from plenty of frustration. I don't need any "Blue Screen of Death" Windows nightmares.

Thank you.

I have a 2016 with the 8.4 AN. How do you organize the songs so the H/U displays the album and artist? It's not critical but it just bugs me that I can browse by artist then album then song, the H/U displays the correct album art and the correct song, but the artist and album are labeled as "unknown".

That's probably an issue with the file "properties" where the various track info is stored. You can set your windows directory layout to show these attributes to see if they are being properly set by the ripping software you are using.

I am running a 128 SD in mine. I formatted to FAT32 using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. It is made for formatting external media. Once you have it on the FAT32 format, copy your folders onto the disk and you'll be good to go. The UConnect 8.5 will not read NTFS or xFAT32. Just Google for the HP app and you can use any size disk.

That was interesting. My phone doesn't bring up a keyboard for this site. Back at the computer now.

Just go with .wav format. It's lossless and just about everything supports it. The downside is that the files are a bit on the large side, but memory is so cheap now that it shouldn't be an issue. Put different genres on different cards if you have to.

Can anyone recommend a free Windows compatible ripper that gets the attributes correct so Album and Artist will display on the H/U ?

I use MP3 format. Use a program called MP3Tag to get all the album art and tags correct. Most of the time it will pre-fill for you off amazon.
