345 HEMI Badge Project

5813 Views 32 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  jmedina0107
So I purchased a set of 392 Hemi engine covers for my RT. My plan is to make a set of 345 Hemi Badges out of ABS so it has more of a factory appearance. I will be adding the pictures of the progress as I go. I know I could buy these from Rebadge but I thought this might be a fun project to try out. I'm modeling the badge in AutoCad and will be printing it on a 3d Printer. I've added the pictures of the stencil I made and the progress of the 3d modeling.

Going out of town for a few days. I will be continuing the modeling process Monday night. I hope to have some more pics by then.
Cool man good luck! I did the same thing with the half covers, looks great now! I got my badges from Rebadge though. I'm sure it'll look great when you're finished!
Thats a great idea. I did the same as Carl and had Nate from rebadge make some. Turned out really good. Good luck:smileup:
Just wondering why you guys didn't purchase 345 half covers?
I must be missing something.....

Ok. I just noticed several people said they did the same thing.
I was just wondering....
Thanks.
Yeah I wanted mine to say 5.7L Hemi similar to the 6.4L Hemi on the SRT Jeeps, thought that looked cool. Didn't see any premade like that and thought it'd be a fun project to do in the winter.

They have some nice premade ones as well.
For me I found that most of the covers have the HEMI raised up next to the 345. I wanted it to be more centered. Also I have been experimenting with different materials. Found that Nylon plastic has a similar heat tolerance to ABS and its a little more cost effective. I took a temperature reading of the engine compartment by sticking a thermostat next to the fuel rail and then went for a 20 min drive. Found that the area where the covers are mounted reach a high of 160 degrees and drops to 140 degrees. Which is probably why PVC warps after a while. I could have just bought the covers but then I would be looking for something else to do lol. I used to sculpt and spent some years as a 3d modeler. Skills I hardly get to use anymore so I figured this would be fun. Anyway just got back from taking my kid to Disney. I should have a little more done today. I will post soon.

Finished the 4 today. The red coloring is just so I can see the parts better. I will add more tomorrow.

Looks good man! I sure couldn't do that on a computer. Let us know how it turns out!
This is a cool project. I'm looking forward to the end result:smileup: And thanks for the PM cdahl383. Your PM inbox is full.
Thanks for the good feedback guys. If this comes out right I may just do some more designs. Maybe different style badges or other cosmetic parts. So I got word from the 3d printing company that my part should be here between Tuesday and Thursday. I can't wait! This weekend I decided to get the covers ready. I cut the back end of the passenger side cover to allow for the dipstick and bore a whole out of the front so that I can route the oil catch can hose through the cover. I also grinded down the 392 HEMI logo on both covers and added foam insulation to the bottom of the covers. I don't really know if I need the insulation or if it even insulates, but the old 5.7 cover had the foam so I made some of my own. Test fit everything and its good. Just need the badges and I'm good to go.

That's some nice work!
Looks good man!

I'm guessing the foam you're talking about was more of a sound deadener than anything. I always figured having these half covers on was a lot better than the stock engine cover with regard to letting heat escape from the manifold/engine and up to the hood through the vents and stuff.

Projects like that are fun! I remember messing around with my half covers a couple years ago, it was fun!
Just got my prints in and test fitted. Everything looks good to me. I have to paint the numbers a silver to match the originals. The part has some flexibility to it. I think I'm going to use JB Weld to attach it to the covers once I complete the painting.

Nice work, 3D printers are going to be a major factor in our hobby I believe.
