I had a day off today, so I didn't waste it. I took a day trip to Valentine, Nebraska. I have a good friend there, called her, and made a lunch date. The drive was about two hours. Once into Nebraska, the drive is straight east about 100 miles. I confess it didn't take me as long as it should! The Challenger was just begging me to give it the freedom to take flight! Honestly, I don't think I drove the 65 mph. speed limit as much as I probably should have. I met about 10-15 cars in those 100 miles. It is a very well maintained road, so there were a few times I was in the triple digits. What an awesome ride it was! It was only 12 degrees this morning when I left, but by the time I got home late this afternoon, it warmed to 50 degrees!
I plan on several posts on this thread as I took my camera along, and by the time I am done posting on this thread, you will have a good idea of what the sandhills of Nebraska look like in the early spring. Wait till they green up this summer, it is amaziing!
When I reached Valentine, I had a little free time before lunch so I went out with the camera, just east of Valentine. The beautiful Niobrara river meanders through the sandhills, so here are a few photos of the river area:
