My wife’s 300c has them and i use them in the mountains when going down long grades for engine braking.

If you are going 80 mph and try and shift to first gear the car won’t do it. Usually a manual downshift is not that harsh but you don’t want to drop down to many gears in slick conditions it might lock up the rear wheels momentarily.

I believe the transmission just won’t grab a gear to low.
