Had anybody run a newer 5.7 vs 6.4? I have a 15 5.7 and I'm just wondering how they stack up? I know all the HP numbers an all that for both but I wanna hear from people who have actually run em in person. Almost seems cheaper to just get a 5.7 and mod it than it is to get the 6.4.

With all things being equal, six speed 5.7 vs 6.4. The 6.4 in a quarter mile is in the 12 second club, while the 5.7 in the 13 second club. Also the boost on the new 392s, 15 HP and 15 Torque, the 392 will have a little more then a car length on the 5.7.

Well I realize they aren't 15 models but I started with a 2010 5.7 auto R/T and currently drive a 2014 SRT 392 auto. Basically stock the R/T was good for a 13.6 add drag radials and a few minor mods and it was low 13's, add high stall converter and it was a high 12 car in the right conditions.

The 392 was good for mid 12's with good rubber and a 12.28 with a tune. So if you mod your R/T with minor bolt on's it won't be as fast as the 392. Step it up with a super charger and you will be around the same. Depending on the super charger it will cost you 5-8K plus install. The 392 Scat Pack will also have better brakes, which may or may not be important to you.

Ran my 14 RT auto vs a 13 charger super bee. Results was what to be expected when your opponent puts more to the ground than you have at the crank

You are looking at about 100 HP difference. I had a 5.7 R/T 6 speed with mods (Headers, CAI, Tuner, 180 Thermostat) and the 1st time I took a test ride in a 6.4 SRT 6 speed, I felt a world of difference. I just had to get one. I got the 6.4 six speed last year. I would love a test ride in a Hellcat but I can't keep spending money on a car I only use in the Summer. In this cold weather the 6.4 spins the tires thru the first three gears. After that I grin and slow down because I am well over the speed limit.

If you go drive a 5.7 and then drive a 6.4 afterwards you will notice a huge difference. It's like night and day. If you don't want to spend the extra money for the 6.4 do yourself a favor and don't drive one.

The 5.7 is fast and fun to drive, but the 6.4 is crazy fast and a blast to drive. I will be buying my 6.4 SP hopefully within the next few weeks.

If speed is really important to you get the 6.4 scat pack. Its got 485hp vs the 375hp the 5.7l has. For $7500 you can get a edelbrock e-force supercharger for the 5.7l but they've only been tested to a max of 471hp, so the 6.4 still beats it, numbers wise. Maybe a supercharged 5.7 would be faster...i don't know but you still wont have the brembo brakes, tune-able suspension, or the active exhaust. You can get a stripped down scat pack for the same price as a fully loaded R/T plus. I chose the R/T plus because I wanted all the options vs bigger engine.

I keep trying to push that fact out of my mind lol.

It looks the best of all three, it looks the best of all three, it looks the best of all three ect...

If its any consolation I spanked the hell out of a 2012 or 2013 hemi charger with my 15 challenger yesterday, and I mean it wasn't even close. Sad thing is he was the one who wanted to race. I also beat a 2011 camaro ss...*cough*because he eventually got caught in traffic*cough* Never did get in front of me though.

I'm not trying to be ungrateful I love my car but it sure sucks to have such a beautiful car that's the slowest of all the muscle cars.
Some of these Challengers are faster than you think, you should look at our 12 second club, with some good tires and a few minor boltons and a good D.A these cars are very capable of running in the high 12's, thats not slow at all for a car that size.

That's a win in my book lol!

That's what I'm thinking I'll do, I never race anyway but its the principal behind it. My exhaust will be here tomorrow so I'll just put that on an start modding a little at a time and just be thankful I don't have to drive a 1980 Honda civic or something like that.

13's is not slow at all. I've seen R/T's beat Mustangs at the track and Mustangs beat R/T's at the track, depends on the driver, traction, mods, etc. I've beat quite a few cars on the street and at the track with my car and I've only done a few basic things to it.

When I was at the track a couple years ago there was a guy with 2011 Camaro SS 6 speed and he was running 13.6 and I was running 13.8 on a hot summer day. I was running right with him and I was still learning how to launch the car off the line.

There are plenty of guys in the 12's with drag radials and bolt ons. Hardly slow for a 4000+lb car. The 6.4L is the way to go if you want to go really fast, but the 5.7L is no slouch.

Its not that I wanna be the fastest its that I don't wanna be the slowest lol
Just remember that R/T stock will run faster than the vast majority of all other muscle cars produced over the last 50 years. So in the grand scheme of things it's far from slow.

I took my R/T to the track for three years before trading up to an SRT, during that time with minor bolt on's I got it into the high 12's and never lost to a stock Camaro at the track. I also beat a lot of Mustangs with it so no reason to feel like you have the slowest car out there, you don't.

Carl. You always inspire me with your words of wisdom from the track. I have yet to take my Challenger to the track. I guess I need to give it a go. Thanks for your wealth of knowledge.
Haha thanks man! I'm far from a pro but I do go to the track enough to know a little.

It's a lot of fun, I suggest taking it when you can, just for the sheer experience. Don't worry about ET's and MPH yet, just go to learn the process and have some fun. Over time you'll get the hang of it and get better and better.

If you've got a 6 speed you really need a set of drag radials to do anything serious at the track. Launching with 20" wheels and street tires is a joke. I know with some drag radials on my car I could do much better than a 13.8 but always seem to find some other way to spend $600 or so rather than buying a spare set of rims and slicks.
