I had a car shipped from Texas to San Diego in 2011. It was about $1300 in an enclosed trailer.
Also, I made the mistake of doing it through a shipping broker. That added to the cost, I'm sure. If I was to ship again, I would book direct with the shipper.

My shipper was Grand Turismo Motorsports. They do a lot of race car shipping and were in constant contact with me during the process.
The car arrived in perfect shape and in some high class company. Also in the truck was a new Bentley, a race prepped Mustang, and a new 599 Ferrari.

A lot of the places Ive been finding are brokers how do I not deal with a broker ?
From...http://truckittransport.com/about-vehicle-shipping

Carriers simply don’t have time to market themselves, do customer service, deal with leads. They are full time with driving, dispatching, maintaining, so fourth! Carriers have a full time business without even thinking of getting customers. Not to mention carriers cant handle every customers shipment, as they are limited to usually 1-3 trucks for your avg owner operator which is about 90% of the transport industry.

I purchased a car from a Dodge dealer who owned an enclosed trailer, the driver was their full time employee. This was my best transport experience.

I sold a car and the buyer used a classic car transport company. A restored Hemi Daytona was on the same trailer. He could track the delivery online with their GPS. It took 2 weeks for the car to be picked up and another 2 1/2 weeks for the car to arrive in NE from VA.:wow: This is a 1100 mi. trip, door to door, but the trailer route was more like 2200 mi. The car was transferred to a different trailer once.

Dealing with brokers can be frustrating. They may tell you what you want to hear, but they are subject to the whims of the trucker, the weather, the delivery locations of other cars on the trailer etc.

Unless you know a local hobbyist with a trailer (with insurance) a broker is the only way to go.

I've shipped many cars across country and everywhere in between. I only use Reliable. In transport, you get what you pay for. Worth every penny.
