I want to do some led strips in my car in the footwells, and under the hood in red. I dont want them on very often, nor do i want to screw with the wiring. Anyone know if there is an led strip that i can use that you can just use batteries like AAs and switch them on and off by hand? I am terrible when it comes to electrical. Thanks.

I know they make them... now finding the color and fit for your application may take some searching...but they appear to exist.

FWIW, most of the LED strips you see in Auto Zone come wired to a battery of some sort with a press and release test switch.

It's also not that bad as a DIY project with a bit of basic reading. We also have a local company here in SA that caters to the market and does that sort of work for reasonable prices.

I bought some battery operated led strips around Christmas time a few years ago. Got thm in Walgreens. They are not very bright ans I use them in the trunk, where they are very subtle. If you search the knowledge base, 09ChallengerDad did a tutorial on engine bay lighting that is spot on. All the wiring is within the lights themselves. There it a hot connection in the fuse box and you connect to one of the grounds under te hood. So easy I could do it...
