Anyone here that can give me a recommendation about a good 1911-model for target-shooting? I am looking for a 9mm or 45 acp with adjustable sights. Something in the mid-range pricing, eliminating the really cheap ones with poor design and also the most expensive like Kimber. I have my eyes on the Springfield Range Officer model but any suggestions is appreciated!

Bjorn, the Springfield Range Officer is certainly a great HandGun. I have two Ruger SR1911's in 45ACP. I have a standard 5 inch model with Pachmyer contoured grips. My gunsmith has modified the trigger pull with a kit and some tweaking to give it a constant 3.5 lb pull, which helps consistent shooting. It handles pretty well and is pretty consistent. I've put over 400 rounds thru it and it has never jammed, misfed or misfired. I also have an unmodified Commander model that has just barely been broken in and I think it handles better than the 5 inch. I'll know more after I put more rounds thru it.

I also bought a Springfield EMP in 9MM that I was going to use as a concealed carry, but after buying and seeing it, I decided it was too nice to put daily wear and tear on it. I've put about 50 rounds thru it and love the way it handles

I don't carry the 1911's much because of the weight. My carry gun is a S&W M&P Shield 40 that has a trigger kit with a 3.5 lb pull and Crimsom Trace lazer. I've put more than 750 round thru it and and love the way it responds.

Hope this helps you out. Questions, just ask.

I had a Colt Commander 9mm and it was a great gun really accurate.Instructors at the range were pretty amazed how well I hit the targets 90% on the Police test.

Thank you guys. I will check out the Ruger and Colt
BTW, I paid $729(a little more than I would have liked, but they were hard to find at the time)for my 5 inch and have put an additional $350 in it. The Commander was $659 I got during a sale.

I would go with the Springfield Range Officer. I have a Springfield 1911 that was made in 74 and the 1911 pistol is still "My Go to Gun" in home defense. But, I did upgraded the 1911 with a Laser for quick point and shoot. You can't go wrong with the stopping power of the .45 either.

I am a little biased though, I was issued and carried the 1911 while serving. :)

Thanks for posting. Great video, that guy really knows how to shoot
Nice gun that compact model. I am sorry to say that concealed carry is out of the question here in Sweden due to very strict gun-laws. Apperently the goverment in Sweden only want the criminals to carry!!!

With that in mind i guess the standard Springfield Range Officer would be a better choice for target shooting/competitions?

I also like my full size RO (with Wilson combat mag) and it may be better suited to your personal needs.

Hickok45 shoots the RO.
He and Jerry Miculek are two of the best.

I own a Kimber and firmly believe that you get what you pay for in a handgun. I also sold guns at a wholesale level for over 14 years.

If I were looking to purchase another 1911 to compliment my Kimber, I'd look into the Springfield 1911's, Sig 1911's and Smith and Wesson 1911's.

Update on this (now old) subject. I finally ordered a 1911, 9 mm. It is a STI Range Master. STI has no resellers in Sweden that delivers this model if i dont like to wait for 6 month, so i had to get it from Olso, Norway. The downside is that beside the hassle of getting a license for a handgun in Sweden i got to deal with the customs to as i am importing it. The upside is that the price i pay for it ($1882) is $350 lower than what the Swedish reseller could offer.
It feels great to finally get a US-built 1911 :)

I love the 1911 Models. This is a recent purchase and addition. I already have a Colt Model.

Shot great right out of the box.

Remington. Yes it is a .45.

STI is known for making really good stuff. They make a lot of competition race guns. Yours looks very nice. Don't be surprised if it needs some breaking in. It's probably pretty tight new but it might also shoot great out of the box.

Looks like real nice gun. I like the 45. A little to costly ammo here in sweden, thats why i bought the 9 mm.
