Wow talk about a research day of learning! I was researching various tire prices and ended up discovering a warning regarding the Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S tires I run, and recommend to others. The warning was not to run the tires on a Dyno, my curiosity went through the roof, and I found this at Mickey Thompson.

Tire use on a Dyno

I have not run mine on a Dyno so I am not concerned about that, but I still wanted to know why, and I found something that pretty much explains the pressure tires have to endure being strapped down to a chassis Dyno. This explains more than just the loss of horsepower.

It's not a good idea to run slicks of any type on a dyno. They dyno "eats" them. It you want to dyno with slicks, some tuners require you to send an extra set.

right from OST Dyno's site, well I made it red and bold...

How Can You Best Prepare for a Tuning Session?
  • Be certain that your car has no fluid leaks.
  • Verify that all engine sensors are working properly. If certain sensors are not reporting correctly we will not be able to properly tune your car.
  • Verify that there are no exposed wires in the engine bay.
  • Make sure that your car has fresh, quality fuel in it.
  • Make sure your vehicle has the proper engine oil and transmission fluid levels. Below adequate levels could be catastrophic.
  • Remove your slicks if possible! The cross-hatching on dyno rollers will eat through slicks very quickly. However, higher power cars will require some sort of drag radial. Additional fees will apply if we need to take your car off the dyno, swap tires, and strap it down again.
  • If you are upgrading parts that play a large rule in how your car runs (like fuel injectors) wait to swap them on the dyno. Putting larger injectors in your vehicle without proper tuning could destroy an engine quickly.
  • It’s always a good idea to bring another set of spark plugs with you and a spare supercharger belt if applicable.
  • Remember your tuning module and related hardware if applicable.

I really have zero intentions of running Black Beauty on a Dyno anyway, the final tune will be through Data logging, I am just not concerned with the HP number. I am concerned with performance and getting it fine tuned through the information the Wideband O2 and AFR gauge reports, which should end up with better gas mileage too.

I used to be constantly running tests with 0 ~ 60s times, 1/8th, and 1/4 mile times, with each incremental performance improvement, but the supercharger has completely shattered BBs past best records. My past goal was simply to reach the stock 392s posted performance times, but I actually reached that goal naturally aspirated, it is way past that goal now!

Don't take this the wrong way guys, we used to have 392 Scat Pack guys that would come into our 5.7 upgrade threads, and piss on our hopes and dreams, talking down to everything we wanted to do, for more performance. If I had listened to them I would not have done the first upgrade, a lot of them were banned from the forum, but, today we have a much better forum with great Scat Pack owners.

So for those from the past !

Yeah Corny, I Know.
Have a great day everyone! :) Ry

Great news, I finally was able to talk to a human at AFE Power, and I have ordered the air connection tube to be able to officially use my AFE Momentum GT air box and filter with the Magnuson. I am getting a 6.4l connecting air tube which should almost be a perfect angle fit to the Magnuson intake alignment! :) Ry

That's awesome, Ry! I was hoping you'd be able to get one without having to pay for a full setup. Can't wait to see the pics.

Very reasonable Dave, cost me $115 plus shipping.

It took numerous pulls on a dyno to get my prefect air/fuel ratio, which is what we were going for. It would have taken months to do the same thing data logging...

Oh well so much for getting excited over something so simple as an air tube, just got an email apology that the order is delayed and I have to wait 2 more weeks for it to be shipped out. Seems if it was an already boxed to ship order, it would come from the main warehouse, but unfortunately a part of a boxed set, has to come from the manufacturing part of AFE.

It would not have been so bad had they told me that from the beginning, so I would not be looking for a shipping notice everyday since the order was placed. I cannot begin to imagine what some are going through that have ordered brand new Challengers, and have heard nothing about the progress of the order!

So Kudos to SOLO Performance, and Summit Racing, of all the companies I have dealt with, getting Black Beauties Performance upgrades, they kept you informed, and even delivered a day before scheduled.

So for me the wait continues for a simple plastic air tube, the missing part to complete my under hood puzzle, and calm down my OCD. :) Ry

Adding the Magnuson to the 5.7 puts you in Lone Wolf territory, Black Beauty is a sleeper, there is nothing outside to indicate it is supercharged. Driving the car is an Adrenalin blast but everybody seems to want to challenge a Challenger, but the most frustrating has come from other Challenger or Charger owners. Revving their engines and wanting to race on the street, I told Lynda the other day that every Wednesday is supposed to be test and tune at the local drag strip, but I have never even attended a drag race, much less actually race a car. But that would be the safest option at least in keeping my drivers license.

If it is not a big drive, I highly recommend you got to a test and tune just to have fun!

You don't have to get super serious and rev your engine at launch to have a good time. Just the thrill of matting it when the light turns green and letting the car run out without fear of hitting a pothole or pedestrian, etc. is worth the $40-50 for entry.

It is just fun and it is what your car was made for, SMILES per gallon!

My problem is I am totally clueless at a drag strips protocol, zero knowledge on that subject, except what I have seen on TV. I am also not keen on racing against another and wrecking because of their driving, I take responsibility for myself and my actions, not for others. I've seen many wrecks at drag strips on TV caused by the other driver, that would seriously suck.

Is there a Drag Strip 101, to learn procedures, protocols, requirements, and what the heck to do?

Well, all I can tell you is what I did.

Pay at the gate of course, they will tell you to Tech-in or simalar. There, just tell tech its your first time and they will help you out. Usually, a strip will say anything under 14s needs a helmet and most will have rentals available. Or just play dumb, never ran it, don't know what it will do and try to get kicked out! They may ask you to lift the hood at which point you might not be able to play dumb anymore.

Listen for groups to be call if that is how they organize it, again Tech will tell you all this. Get into the lanes and wait.

Drive around the water and when given the ok, maybe a quick tire scrubbing "burnout" to get the rocks off. Inch in to light the first bulb, let the other guy light his first bulb. Then light your second bulb at which point you are staged, maybe light presure on the brake to stay put and when the light turns green just mat it! Hang on and let off when you cross the line and slow down gradually with the brakes. Hit the return road and pickup your slip!

You can play with foot braking if you want to put more power in at launch depending if you bog or spin.\

regarding the other lane, if it is another street car like you then it should be no worries. You are not at a high enough power level for the violent left to rights you might have seen. Those guys are usually on big bias-ply slicks that are way more sensitive to variations than the radials you are running.

Remember, you are in charge of how hard you go. Hell maybe you and Lynda just go on a Wed night to watch once or twice! Hearing the other cars will get you stoked I am sure. Do not be afraid!

does anyone here have a stock R/T 5.7L Trans tune they can send me? I may be able to finally fix my Sport Mode with HP Tuners
I thought I had my stock trans tune, but it is for some reason MIA, on my Diablo i3?
Not sure why, but I can't even roll back to it, I'll keep investigating though.
