It looks like a block of wood and a floor jack under the differential and should be good but wanted to check before I did that.

No, don't do that, It gets very expensive.

Is there a difference in the rear differential from the older models (pre-2015) and latest in regards to being able to jack up the rear differential?

Yeah - after reading the posts I wondered bc I’ve always done it without issue but I use a wide 6” cup that spreads the load across the entire bottom of the diff. I wouldn’t dare do it with the smaller 3-4” cups.

guess I’m gonna just call myself lucky and use a puck next time. Not a big deal as I put the stands under the control arms anyway.

BL (before lift) I used a foot long length of 2 X 10 between the jack and diff. I can see why it's not recommended but If done carefully (assure the floor jack will roll and the car won't move) there is very little danger of damaging the diff.

Ive done it once with a 2x between the diff and jack. Had 3 jacks but not one was low profile enough to get under the side. Jacked it up enough til i could get a jack under each side and then jacked it on up with those. I now have two low profile jacks and i can jack up with the pucks both sides at the same time.

I've been jacking my car twice a year (to change wheels and tires) for 8 years under the diff. I use a soft piece of wood on top of the jack pad. The diff leaves impressions of the fins in the wood. Never had a problem.
