Check the fuel level in the float bowl and make sure the float is free 'floating'. If the float is stuck, the engine will start and run and eventually not have enough fuel to keep the engine running depending on throttle position. If all that is fine, then check your fuel pressure.

I was thinking a carb rebuild, too. After checking pump anyway.

Get a carborator rebuild kit and a can of carborator cleaner large enough to hold the entire carborator. The cleaner comes with a basket to hold the entire carborator for submersion in the chemicals. Note that the cleaner is extremely caustic and will eat anything which isn't metal. Follow the directions exactly as they are given in the rebuild kit, and obtain the special tools you will need. Cleaning the fuel filter isn't good enough; replace it.

Do you know who sells a carborator rebuild kit for a 1980 dodge challenger Mitsubishi engine and tools? Thanks
Check out Rock Auto or Autozone. Both have rebuild kits available. Autozone has a reman carb for almost $500 plus core deposit.

A rebuild kit for these carburetors is a waste of time. They never run right after a rebuild. Because of primitive emissions controls in those days the factory tune was a very narrow band. Even the remanufactured ones suck. Its better to get a Weber replacement. Expensive yes. But, it will work correctly.
Here is place that sell one...

Thanks for the info. All of the carborators I've rebuilt were on 60's cars, and always made a tremendous difference in the performance. I avoided buying 80's cars because of emission requirements which made them all gutless...
