So last night I took my dad and I up to famoso for racing for the second time this season. I was pretty excited because last year all I had was a magnaflow catback and I ran a 13.7 in the 1/4. And now i have a tuner and a LMI intake but it ran terrible! my best run of the night was a 14.5 at like 96 MPH. I thought maybe the tuner messed it up but when I unplugged it I ran a 15.2 at 100mph.. no idea why it went faster but much slower. Seem to lug pretty bad around 2-3k rpm almost like a turbo lag. Has this happened to anyone else? a sundden slow down in vehicle. I lost to a V6 mustang  so im trying to adress this right away.

Wow, where to start. Dont know your car but a few things can cause issue with power loss.

1. Fuel: grade of fuel and/or just a bad tank of gas. It happens. Those small convenience stores and older stations are to blame. You need to find a newer station with quality gas.(BP, Chevon, Sunoco) If your going to the track increase your octane with an additive (Torco). It took me a year to find a good station with good consistent gas by data logging for knock. Also you need to have an injector/carbon cleaning. A good burn is a clean burn.

2. Spark: Change those plugs every 30k no matter how good they look. Make sure to pull Fuse 2 everytime you go to the track before you race to clear the adaptives.

3. Air: Filters must be cleaned/changed everytime you change the oil (at least every 12k)

Outside of the above is mechanically related issues which need more insight to diagnose.

^^^^ All good Advice above, if you do the #2 pull do it a day or two before you go to the track and then do some spirited driving. One other thing you might want to do is compare the DA on both nights that you raced. If the DA was was much higher on Friday night compared to the first time you raced that could have a significant impact on your track times. The 5.7"s run sluggish in the real hot weather.

I agree, was it hot and humid on the second time?

Also what kind of tuner? Maybe a dyno tune is in order.

Looked at track specs, it is at 625ft, friday night it was at 2600 feet, that sure could be some of the reason.

That's way up there Corbin, when you go over 2000 there is a noticeable difference.that's more than 1/2 of a second right there.

Yes that can be .5 a sec which is close to what he lost. I had to guess at a time so it actually could have been higher.

I know when my R/T was stock it didn't like the high DA
at all, .5 sec was the min. It was probably a bit more.

This is why I do not visit the drag strip here, it sits at 3000 ft and is usually at 4500-5000ft.Friday it was at 6600ft:shakehead:

That's awful Corbin, that is sure to drain a lot of power out of your car, I wouldn't race with those conditions either, I think the OP might have been making his runs too close together too which is sure to cause hot lapping. When I race in a high DA i always space my runs out giving my engine a chance to cool off.

Yikes!!!!
I was used to Maple Grove where the numbers were frequently under sea level.I truly think that track had the best air on the east coast.

I might possibly be going there next week, I know those of us around here that race are really lucky with the low elevation and DA.

Atco is a real fast running track too. It sits around 30 ft above sea level.

Our track near me in Baytown has KILLER conditions in the fall right after a cold front...but forget about it in mid summer. These are the humidity's I have to work in every day and when it gets over 90...three shirts in one day and wet underwear are the norm.:shakehead:

If all else fails put the magnaflow back on and reverse all engine mods back to when it ran the best...food for thought

I don't think he ever took the Magnaflow off. He just added a tuner and a CAI.
