A good suggestion was made by Theresa to start a thread on cleaning a car cover, so here we go. I wasn't sure which section to put it in so it's here I put it in the washing and waxing section if the mods want to place else where that's cool.

I'm sure we have a few different ways that folks out there clean their covers, so lets share how we do it and perhaps we can come up with the ultimate way using the best products and techniques out there to get the job done.

Here is what I do:

Lets face it the covers are huge, and at least for me my washer isn't big enough to clean it properly. So I have found the best and easiest way to clean it is when it's on the car.
I pick a nice warm/hot sunny day, the faster it can air dry the better. I use either some Simple Green or liquid Fantastik in a bucket of cold water, a sponge and an old t shirt for the tougher stains. With the cover on the car, parked in the sun, I quickly hose off any dust or whatever my be laying on the cover. I put a couple of ounces of simple green in a bucket and fill it with water. I do a walk around on the cover and the bigger stains of oil or grease or whatever get a shot of either some simple green or fantastik and with the old t-shirt rub away to get rid of it. Once done , with the sponge I wash down the cover with the solution in the bucket, which is very mild and hose it off . Crack open a beer and let it dry in the sun , when its all dry I remove from the car and turn it inside out and put back on the car. The inside is usally pretty clean and just needs a light brushing or a vacuum. Once all done and dry (if the inside needs to dry ) I'll fold her up and I have an old suitcase that I store it in till I need it again. Then crack open another cold beer and when it cools down a little ....wash the car.

so thats what I do.

Thanks Betty, hope it's not in to bad a shape for you, a duffle bag / hockey bag, or old suitcase will help to keep it clean when he's not using it.

Funny you post this today. I was just thinking about this yesterday too. Thanks for the tips.

One thing my wife and I do about once a month or when I have been doing some woodwork in the garage (YES I keep my car cover on in the garage thank you) is to take it outside and shake it out vigorously like a sheet in the wind to get all the dust off.

yup , pretty much like me...my car is garaged to, only use the cover for winter storage, or if I'm going to do some work in the garage and it's raining outside, otherwise I just pull the car out.

Shaking it out is a great idea to

Same thing here Corey, I've always shaken mine with help of course, either my son or my neighbor. If it's too dirty it goes to the laundramat.
