Custom Tuning

Looking for suggestions on a GOOD shop to tune my car.

I am in NW Indiana, willing to drive an hour

Some said Franz in Lowell is garbage, some said its good.

I second Jay Greene. I've been with him for years after switching from a different tuner. Problem is he's gotten a lot busier over the years. I think his prices have gone up lately too.

Johan Mangs is another good remote tuner that has been working with the Hemi platform for nearly 20 years. I've used him in the past on my old Challenger with great results as well.

Be careful with local shops that don't specialize in the Hemi platform. I have a few friends who have gone through various tuners and shops with bad experiences.

I'm 64. I ain't computer dumb, but I ain't computer smart either. It was a learning curve for me. Some tuners don't know how dumb some of us are. Tuners are temperamental and are often not good about responding to questions and concerns. Most of them are full time career guys who do tuning on-the-side.

I am on my 3rd tuner. And what a blessing. The reality is that good tuners are difficult to nail down. Too much demand, not enough supply. I recommend Jay Greene because he responds promptly to a newb like me.

Don't get me wrong, I have been dragging since 1989. At that time though ,it was pretty easy to find a dyno tuner. Hand over the keys. Watch your beast blow up the dyno. Pay the bill, receive the keys, and drive home with a shit-eatin' grin on your face. Easy peasy.

If there is a local tuner nearby, you are blessed.

It's not too difficult to datalog. You basically just record various parameters with your tuner while driving, then download that file onto your laptop, and then email it to the tuner. They review it, make some adjustments to your tune, email you a revised tune file, you load it on the tuner, load it into the car, run another datalog, send that file to the tuner again, and usually after 2-3 revisions you're good. You'll need to download some software onto your laptop in order to send tune files back and forth.

It's good you have an A/F ratio gauge already. That really helps dial things in, especially if you switch fuels sometimes to race and one fuel has more oxygen content than the normal fuel you run.

That's too bad. He's a good tuner. I know he has gotten to the point now where he is focusing more on more serious type builds. He doesn't want to hire other people to do work for him as he doesn't trust anyone else. Unfortunately, that means eventually turning away work.

I would try Johan Mangs then. See if he would do some tuning for you. He does good work and has been tuning Hemi platforms for nearly two decades now.

Some folks have had good luck with Hemifever (Sean) on here as well.
