Took my new 16 Challenger Scat Pack in for latest Uconnect update, the one from April 29th. As the dealer was trying to install it, the radio completely crashed and would not come back on. They now have to order a new radio through Chrysler.
Funny thing, a couple hours prior to finding this out I had spoken with another Dodge dealer's service department and they mentioned this very problem in certain Jeep and Dodge minivan products. With cars now being so technical and full of electronics, I suppose problems such as these can and will happen. It all started with all of the center console buttons (except for the hazard lights) going dead. The air conditioning also shut off on its own and would not come back on until I went into the settings on the radio and restored them back to "factory default." Once I did this the air did come back on, but the radio itself could not be trusted. Has anybody else had this same problem? Just wanted to put my experience on here in case anybody else has or will go through something similar.

Thank you. A person in the service department at a different local Dodge dealership said that he has seen this same issue occur in some Jeep and Dodge Caravan Products. Apparently this issue is specific to the 8.4 radio that is used in various vehicles by Chrysler.

The entire systems of these vehicles are tied to code. At some point or another, we are going to have to become code experts to remedy issues on these vehicles post warranty.

These systems are prone to issues, most of the time the update takes care of it but sometimes it doesn't and requires a head unit replacement - had some issues with the 8.4 in my truck they replaced it three years ago haven't had an issue since.

I have the 8.4 in my SP, no issues yet, 8500 miles. I didn't know there was an update. Maybe the update screwed it up since it was working fine before that? Sometimes those updates make things worse I swear.

The issues were already there before the update. But during the update the radio crashed fatally and now it needs to be replaced.

That's good to know. I'm hoping the same thing happens once mine is replaced this week.

The 8.4AN in my '14 JGC was replaced last summer. Common problem on the Jeep forum.
Which Jeep forum you on? I'm on a couple (using the same name).

2016 Challenger Scat Pack in B5 Blue Update 6/24:
Got car back today from dealer after 2 long weeks with factory paint blemish in trunk area fixed properly & the new replacement 8.4 radio updated and working, BUT:
1. Found a second, similar blemish just above bumper, not far from original blemish.
2. Front splitter damaged (scratched) on drivers side by dealer's car wash guy dragging his hose across it.
3. Found a paint blemish on drivers side front quarter panel, at bumper / quarter panel seam.
4. Discovered scratched rear deck lid, also freshly done today by their car wash guy.
5. Scat Pack vinyl stripes applied straight, but with debris underneath each stripe in multiple places resulting in what looks like bubbles (but aren't).
6. Passenger side headlight and high beam lenses with multiple lateral scratches.
7. Bezel for drivers side fog light is blemished from factory.
At this point I could be forgetting something but we wrote everything down and took pictures of all of it.
Unbelievable, right? The dealer says they'll order parts Monday. I insisted on using my own paint shop for the blemishes and new vinyl stripes. Don't get me wrong, I love the car. It's the factory and dealership that need a lot of work. My first introduction to Dodge. Only Challenger I've ever owned, and I LOVE it. It's simply intoxicating to drive. Just wanted to share my plight and tell you all the car is worth every inconvenience.
