I must say that posting this right now, I feel lucky. I went to my dealer dealer today to pick up some oil filters and happened to look at one of the remaining two scat packs they have and noticed something interesting. The dealer has marked up both cars $10,000 above sticker! When I asked them why, they said that they were going to be hard to get from now on. They said I was lucky to get mine when I did for $3,000 below sticker.
I guess this means that this is the first vehicle that I've bought that has gone up in value. Just thought I'd pass it along.
If you're thinking of getting one of these, you better do it soon.
Cheers

That dealership sucks, there are plenty in my area that are going for MSRP or less. Sounds like they just want to rip people off.

New vehicles don't go up in value unfortunately, they only depreciate, especially in the first two years or so. I think that dealer is just seeing if they can find any suckers.

Any car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. If someone is willing to pay $10k markup on a Scat Pack, all power to that buyer, and I sure wish I had that kind of income. But it's still only going to be worth the going market rate for a used car the moment it rolls off the lot. If the new buyer wrecks it one hour after signing the paperwork, his insurance company is not going to reimburse him (or her) the $10k premium that was paid.

The dealer's reasoning that Scat Packs will be hard to get soon sounds more like ad copy than reality. If something is selling like hotcakes, you don't stop selling because you run out of batter, you just make more. If you had not yet bought your Scat Pack, would you buy one of these two at the dealer's price?

I agree with your comment on that dealer Carl. Playing Devil's advocate here for a moment I could understand if Chrysler was to limit the Scat Packs right now though. They NEED to increase prodution on Hellcats something fierce right now. On a one to one new Challenger basis there is alot more money in the Hellcat for them than the Scat Packs and alot of the Hellcat demand is getting frustrated with the wait. That....and I could well see SRT screaming at the meetings about how the Scat Packs are really cutting into the sales of the true SRT Challengers. Maybe I'm way off base on this but it would not surprise me a bit if Scat packs got harder to get for the next year or so.

I understand your point of view. I would not pay what they are asking now. Just glad I got one when I did. I just heard another dealer in San Diego has marked theirs up 20k. Unbelievable.

As I explained to a several Dodge dealerships back in 2009, they are making more everyday. In the case of the scat pack they will be for at least several years to come. By the way I have a 2014 SRT Core one of just 77 Torred automatics made per Chrysler, maybe they would like to trade me a couple Hellcats for it since it's so rare. :i_rolleyes:

Congrats on the deal they gave you though, 3K below sticker sounds pretty good.

This is sad to read. The Scat Pack is getting increasingly difficult to get hold of. I have 5 orders in the system since the beginning of December, 2 are in D status (finally) the other 3 are still in BG status with no scheduled date at all.

That being said, there is no reason to mark these vehicles up, it's actually a shame to hear that these will probably sit around because of that, instead of being out on the road where they belong.

For that kind of money I can order a new SRT8 right? And have money left over. Correct me if I am wrong. And if that is correct why would someone buy a Scat Pack marked up that high when they could order a new or buy off a lot a new SRT8 Challenger for less?

Perhaps because the Scat Pack model is in more demand than an SRT8. IMO, the Scat Pack has much more charisma than the core SRT8, which many now see as a wannabee Hellcat. Just saying. :4-dontknow: The Scat Pack is the quintessential representation of a true American muscle car. It reminds me of when Pontiac shoe-horned the 389 HO motor into the Tempest and re-badged it as the GTO. And then the other car companies followed suit by putting the bigger engines in their lighter economical models, which created the muscle car craze of the sixties and early seventies.

I originally wanted a Scat Pack for the spring, but I jumped on one now because there truly is something going on with the allocation system, which some of the dealers are definitely taking advantage of.

I remember when a paying customer was able to walk into a dealership and purchase any model the franchise offered without too much of a hassle. It seems those days are gone. :shakehead:

Problem is: not too many people are looking for a stripped-down version. I can see doing away with the sunroof, but all of the other options, IMO, are pretty desirable, which brings the car closer to 46K. I purchased from a local dealership that is quite reputable (Ramsey Auto Imports), and managed to save 1200 bucks on the car. They are now out of Scat Packs and are hoping to see some more allocations.

Ho ho ho, your dealership surely wasn't shy about marking up the Hellcat when I tried to purchase one not too long ago. :158:
I know we weren't and there was a reason for it. We wanted to sell our Hellcats to loyal customers. Those loyal customers got a great deal on them too.

There was no big secret about our pricing of these vehicles, anyone who asked me on here was told an honest answer. We had one Hellcat on the floor which sold over MSRP and the guy came in and offered us a price and we accepted it.

Scat Pack vehicles are not as in demand as Hellcats are (yet). Marking them up will make others want to mark them up.

At the end of the day, this is my opinion. I work for a dealership, I don't make the decision on pricing. As a person who lives and breathes Challengers, marking up a vehicle is the last thing I would like to see.

I am not so sure. Mine only had one option package, and listed about the same as the one in the link, and I don't miss anything. Adaptive cruise, auto wipers, heated and cooled seats and heated steering wheel are ok if you must, but I don't miss them at all. The BMW I traded had all of that, and I could care less. I wanted maximum motor, least complications, and that is what I got. I work for a dealer group that has Dodge (I work for the Ford store). they have gotten in 6, all equipped identical to mine, the only differences being 6 or 8 spd, and all have sold, at or below MSRP and all before the cars got to the lot. I know different strokes for different folks, but a 40k 6.4L hits the spot for a lot of people. I wouldn't have bought an SRT because 46-50K was out of my budget, so the Scat Pack didn't "steal a sale" from SRT, it earned a sale For Dodge, which are all under one roof again anyway.

Just order your car through the Dodge system and avoid the markup. Too easy, NEXT!

Of course I'm just one person...but shurly there would have to be others in my position when considering...A-Keeping whatever they have and maybe modding for 100HP or more...B-trading for a Scat Pack...C-trading for an SRT. My dealer had a black fully loaded Scat Pack maybe 5 months ago that out the door would have been over 50K at MSRP...NO MARK-UP!! This is completly out of reach of what alot of people can afford including me...and besides...if your going to spend that much...why not just go with the SRT and call it a day. Kind of defeates the whole purpose of the Scat Pack IMO. After 3 months of dealing with 6 dealerships...I finally found one that would work with me on price by going invoice plus 500 bucks....the problem was...in the my area of east Texas...west Louisiana...and south Oklahoma...no dealer had one in stock that they could transfer that had my three requirments...AND NO MORE. Appearance package...6-speed...and sound group two...NOTHING else!! Couldn't afford more...didn't want to pay for more. So I had to have the car built. 43K out the door. Obviously for that money I wasn't "stealing" a SRT sale...but for others that could afford more than me and want the SRT 6.4 engine and would have otherwise been forced to spend 50K out the door to get that...this car HAS to be "stealing" some SRT sales.

For roughly 4 thousand dollars more I am going with a SRT8 every time. No Core. This is a straight up SRT8 Challenger. So you were saying how a Scat was better. lol There are dealers marking up Scat Packs by $10,000 to $20,000 supposedly. I just said it would be better to buy a SRT8 Challenger and have money left over.

The difference is 7 not 4 more between base price. Believe it or not...there are people who are perfectly happy without all the techno gadgets and just want a great looking car with a big engine. Those people are smiling all the way to the bank with the 7 grand they saved to get that.

When I go to buy another Challenger one day I am upgrading to a SRT8 is all. My wife loves my RT Classic and I will give it to her. Happy wife happy life. lol Not knocking your Scat Pack. I'd drive one. But if I am going to spend close to $40,000 or a little over I am going with the SRT8. No judgements on who drives what from me.
