Detonater Yellow 2009 Challenger???

I'm looking to purchase a 09 Challenger R/T and can't seem to find that this was ever an original color? It seems to be factory paint. Also is there a place to find a "paint code" on the car? Ron

Yes, detonator yellow was a factory color offered for a while. I'm guessing you're looking at an R/T Classic with the black stripes down the side of the car? That is a factory color for sure.

Not sure on the paint code though. Might be on the info located on the side of the door or possibly coded into the VIN?
never saw a yellow one. Thought there were only a few colors the first year or 2
Don't know about 2009. Definately 2010, that's what the Greek Mopar Man's is.
Detonator Yellow came out in 2010...there wasn't many made...something like 1400 between the R/T and SRT
The Detonator Yellow paint code is "YB" and is located following the word "Paint" on the sticker mounted on the driver's door. On the Challenger, this color was used only during the 2010 model year and was limited to the R/T Classic and SRT trim levels.

Verify the model year of the Challenger. The 2009 and 2010 model years were virtually identical in regards to styling and features. The tenth digit of the VIN identifies the model year. A "9" denotes a 2009 model and an "A" denotes a 2010 model. If the car is a 2009 model with Detonator Yellow paint then this paint is not original.

So detonator yellow was only offered in the 2010 model for the RT classic and srt models. Paint code is PYB . If you saw a 2009 model in the DY color then is was a re spray. Dodge made less than 500 RT classics in the DY color for the United states About 240 of them are stick shifts. I believe dodge made 200 that stayed in Canada. The number is fairly close for the SRT model. . . And don't let anyone tell you otherwise. A mother knows :).

Agree, it's a 2010 not an 09 or it's a re-spray.
Enter your VIN here: Chrysler Equipment Listing

Your Challenger's year and paint will be listed.
Thank you gentlemen,
I'm 70 and this is my last go around with the car scene, so I can't afford to make anymore mistakes. I almost bit on this one. Thanks to the info you all gave, it saved me from a bogus buy. We also have a bunch of "Salvage Title" cars from floods to "totaled rebuilds" out here on the west coast. Thank you again for the help. "My Challenger" is still out there somewhere. Ron

Glad we could help you! If you can't buy new, check out a Chrysler Certified Pre-owned Challenger. And also there are still some new 2014's out there at deep discounts, but they're going fast! Good Luck in your search, My Friend!
I thought DY was a 2009 paint color too? News to me. Glad you checked into it more and some others chimed in for you! Was not aware of that!
DY was made from sept to nov of 09 for the 2010 model year
Oh ok I see. Thanks for clearing that up, did not realize that! Sorry for the misinformation earlier OP.
I live in a small town up in the mountains, and the car is about 50 miles away. Now I'm very interested in the paint job. I am driving down there this coming week, so I'll stop back by and check the code, and the paint job. I'm a decent car guy and am surprised that I didn't pick-up on the repaint, so I'll post back the findings. Thanks again guys. Ron
The production date 2009 may have confused the seller as to the model year.:4-dontknow:
