I'm determined to buy a used Challenger in the fall of 2017 - anyone thinking of selling then - and I'm pretty sure I'll aim for a V8, but what exactly are the difference in the pre- and post-2010s? I understand it has something to do with steering and?

Anyone drive or own one of each? Is there a year in general to avoid or go for?

Thanks.

The pre 2014 automatics had a timing chain recall. I am not sure that the 2014's won't be included too.

Some cosmetic changes. First year for proximity entry. Electric assist steering. Nothing else comes to mind but there probably is.

A5 automatic transmission 2008-2014, starting in 2015 A8. Rear differential: 2008 SRT 215 mm, 2009-2014 SRT 226 mm getrag, 2015 - newer SRT 230 mm getrag. V8 options 5.7 all years, 2008-2010 6.1 Hemi, 2011 to date 6.4 Hemi, 2015 6.2 Hemi, lot's of differences and upgrades as time went on. I've owned a 2010 R/T and now a 2014 SRT, very much like the bigger 6.4 Hemi :D.

I'm partial to the pre 2015's. I don't like the newer 'modern' look of the interior or exterior, especially the change to the retro hood vents being moved too far down. You cant go wrong with an 09-14. I'd avoid an 2008 just because it was the inaugural year and it may have hidden bugs. Just get a 6-speed or if you want an auto, get a tuner and disable MDS so it doesn't blow up your engine. Good luck in your hunt.

Ok my 2 cents, it all depends on what you looking for. I had a 2011 RT Classic and loved that car but I hated the taillights, and the bland interior. in the 2015 and newer the taillight and interior was a must have for me. I too also don't like the hood vents on the 2015 hood but you can get a shaker or an SRT or just change the hood. but all these challengers are fun to drive and great eye candy.

What is that MDS and what's the issue with that and the engine longevity?

I actually like the 70 version but I also like the 71 version. I do like the old school look of the 14 and below dash. As everyone has stated you really can't go wrong. There are plently of garage queens out there if you are willing to do some driving to get one. Good luck!!

I have a first year R/T (2009) and it is as close to the 70's version as you can get. Slightly less sound dampening inside, and super simple design. Less gizmos but still stocked with Uconnect, heated seats, traction control, all that. Gotta get the six speed too. Raw, not too refined and a serious throw back touch.

Me too, although I'd have to go for the six cylinder in that case due to limitation of funds, but that wouldn't be so bad. Would it?
Let's see, 2015 Challenger 3.6 liter V6, 306 HP,..........NO, not bad at all! ;)

Then throw on a supercharger and up your game to 400+ HP to the ground! :)

However if you are looking at something from 10 and newer, I would definitely go with a post 11 and the 3.6L V-6. Overall a MUCH better engine and it handles the boost better!

Howdy,

I got a check engine light come on and took it to autozone to have it checked. I was told it was the 4th cylinder selanoid (sp) for the mds that had gone bad. If I buy the diablosport tuner to disable the mds, will it work?
