I guess that depends on who you ask, my guess that any gain would be very slight at best.

There's a video on YOUTUBE that shows dyno testing of cars with and without CAI's and it says they add NO power at all.

Was wondering what the collectives experience was with them and if you experienced any HP gains??
Prior to the Mopar CAI I was running a very consistent 6.5sec 0 to 60. After the install the numbers did not change at all. So I don't believe you will get any performance gains. However it looks great under the hood and gives a really nice growl, so no regrets.

0 to maybe 6 or 7.
:iagree: Yep.

Now knowing this, I didn't put a CAI on my new Ram but I did put a hi-flow Amsoil panel filter in just because it lasts around 100K miles and you can clean it. If by chance it gives better flow, well that's just an added bonus.

There were some pretty good tests done on the LX forum on CAI's years ago, but those were on 5.7L and 6.1L Hemis. Those found that the LMI intakes like the Airhammer, Frankentake IV, and True CAI got near 10 hp over stock.

Most of the stuff I've read on here over the years pretty much points to gains being anywhere from 0-10 hp.

Most of the CAI's you see are just short ram intakes that actually draw in hot underhood air which isn't really the best idea. The best CAI's are the ones that bring the intake tube down away from the engine and into the fenderwell area. That way you're drawing in cool air vs hot underhood air. The cooler the air charge, the more power you'll make. The downside is it's a pain to get to the filter then.

Most of the short ram intakes sell new from $200 to $350. The long true CAI's sell from $300-400. I could never justify spending that much money for 5-10 hp at best.

If you want something that looks cool and sounds cool when you get on it, then they're perfect. I just wouldn't expect a lot of gains in the horsepower department.

I got an SRT airbox that has a larger opening for air intake over my stock R/T airbox and put a K&N drop in filter in it. Got the SRT airbox on Ebay for $50 and the filter for $40 I think. Works well for me.

What I read in Mopar magazine said there were very small amounts of horsepower gains. I remember the supposed gain on the Mopar CAI being 7 hp gain. That's the only one I remember, because it's the one I have. Whether it's true or not...??

I haven't had one on my challenger yet but I used to drive a little suzuki and I had a full cold air intake while it may not add much horsepower it will give you better throttle response. plus I think if you have a cold air intake under to hood of the car and not going under the car or away from the engine sucking in hot air will not help power. I have a new 2015 sxt and I want to take out the center of my passenger side turn signal so that while I drive the intake just gulps the cold air coming in from the front

There is a very good CIA test in Mopar Perfromance Magazine. The Mopar CIA did in fact win the shoout-out.

I had installed the Cervini Ram Air Intake Kit with the K&N Filter shortly after receiving my Challenger years ago. I was concerned that an air leak may exist between the hood and the air box when the hood is closed so I used foam gasket material to enhance the seal. At idle, with the car not in motion, I would believe that the air flowing over the hood would be warm but when the car is moving I believe that cooler air is made available at the scoop. I do notice on cooler days the response feels snappier and the sound is always phenomenal. I have since accepted the fact that HP gains are around 6 and I even suspected that there were none. But the sound and the bling do make an impact at shows. Enjoy the Journey! Lou.
