Was a nice warm day yesterday in the mid 60's all afternoon! Sure felt good to not wear a coat. The Scat hadn't been started for about a month, and it fired right up, and on the road I went!
Had some errands to run in Rapid City, but I was all done with those by noon! What to do? Well, there is this place north of Rapd City about 20 miles, near Piedmont, SD. It is called Zweifel Motors. It has a small car museum and lots of old cars! How do I know this? Well, a few weeks ago there was a tv show called Roadworth Rescues that aired and a guy who finds old vehicles and gets them running again. He was at Zweifel Motors and the name of this episode was Black Hills Blazer. He took an old Blazer that was parked in the weeds, got it running again, and went off roading in the Black Hills.
I have now watched a few more episodes of his show, and it is just a hoot! He gets these vehicles that you think would NEVER run again, makes them run and his commentary has me laughing the whole way through!

Here is a pic from the trip up:

Lots of melting snow, can't wait for the big green up!

Then I didn't take any pics until I got to Zweifel Motors

This is right along the Sturgis Highway, and I had to pull over in a nice area on the other side of the road to take pics. It didn't look like it was open, as
there was a small rope across the entry, and it was kind of muddy anyway, so I wouldn't have wanted to drive in.

I just started taking some pics of these vehicles from the road.

In this pic you can see the owner, he is coming up and talks to me. I told him I just wanted to take some pics of his cool cars. He of course was super
friendly, insisted that I come on in and look at the cars in the museum. I went back and secured my car on the other side of the road, and off I went for
a great visit and to enjoy some great cars!

When I got there I asked if I could take his pic. I recognized him, as he was also featured in the Black Hills Blazer episode on Roadworthy Rescues!

After taking his picture, the first thing I wanted to do was see that Blazer from the TV show. He said sure, it was out back. So I told him I would take pics of it first and then come in to the museum.
Here is the Blazer (after it was restored to running). Not restored to physical beauty, but sure made it run again!
The guy who did this is Derek, and he has a You Tube following, and he is very entertaining. His You Tube channel is called Vice Grip Garage. He grew up in the Piedmont, SD area,
and worked for Zweifel Motors as a kid. Roger Zweifel (above) said that he is brilliant. I can believe that by his sense of humor. He now lives in Tennessee.

I had to get a pic of the Vice Grip in the Blazer! It was not missed on me that his show is called Vice Grip Garage! Btw, this was not in the tv show!

Derek and his brother did the restoration of this Blazer and it had been sitting for over 20 years. They do a segment of off roading in the Black Hills at the end of the show.
He removed the top on the Blazer and here it sits out back. The back the above Blazer still hasn't got any kind of window or covering!

On to the Museum!

Beautiful photos Betty! What in the world caused that lonely piece of stone to be standing all by itself in that first photo? Maybe it's dirt, but the striations look stone-like.

He's got some great one liners too, he'll say stuff like the hose is more swollen that Opra, and he refernces his hammer as Tonya Harding a lot, LMAO....
I like when he puts his Brother in the Blazer and goes nuts or when they race the 4 door Bel Air. Once in a while they show you his garage and you can see his personal cars, think he has a Gen 1 Barracuda

He had quite a long story about how he acquired this Olds. Long story short, a gentlemen who owned it finally passed away and wanted him to have it. It is original paint and interior.

This Ford has a Chevy engine in it. He did the work to it, and enjoyed telling this. Ford people don't really like that....

A wonderful steering wheel collection here! I think American Pickers should come to this place, as it has so much different stuff in it. Not a new fancy place by any means but I think it kind of adds to the character of it!

That isn't stone! It is the "dirt" pillars of the Badlands, and they do strange things in nature!

When talking to Roger yesterday, I loved his history of Derek. Known each other a long time. Derek started out in a cable company. He soon became the manager
and was doing well. He would go out on weekends and pick up old cars to restore. Then his wife suggested they do some YouTube videos. I think they have a million
followers now!

I remember seeing that show! Seems they dug the Blazer out of the weeds and scavenged a few parts from other vehicles to limp it back to the shop. Then did some upgrades to make it reliable. Took it off-roading and then handed it back to the previous owner who had fond memories of it.

I'm not a big fan of so-called 'reality' automotive TV....'We are going to lose the shop if this build isn't done by tomorrow, and <the other person> is an idiot'.... I only clued in to this episode because it was filmed in the Black Hills and I was wondering how many familiar places I would see.

He had to show me how this hood ornament lights up. There is a switch in the car for that! He said that this was unusual for it to be white, but because of the color of
the car, they made white for it. Most were colored darker.

That is correct! Roger Zweifel, who I met yesterday, was the owner. Derek felt that he owed him something, as he worked for Roger when he was younger.

I also like it because Derek isn't a fake. He is so funny. He actually doesn't try to do major body work to these vehicles. He uses linseed oil, and a few other fun ingredients and just tries to get the paint looking a little better. He redid a 1950 Chevy and even used SOS pads on it!

He has his own MAGIC POTION as he calls it, LOL
The Rebel is my favorite rebirth so far, car looked great when finished. As said no fake BS, he's funny he calls everything something wacky like Spak-o-lators & ice cube juice, he shows you everything exactly as hes doing it, he works in dirt out in fields, gets stung, and whats better than his official NHRA certified Fuel System (which is a milk box with a electric fuel pump and small tank)

I just watched his show on restoring an old 1950 Chevy. That was SO funny. He is very entertaining, and isn't afraid to tackle HARD jobs!

Betty - OMG!!! I just discovered that show about 2 months ago while travelling for business. It was on TV and I watched 3 episodes back to back - laughing at his commentary the entire time!!! I caught the Dodge tow truck one, a Mustang, and something else I cannot remember. I told the fetching Mrs. R that I had to watch more of it I liked it so much! So cool you got to see all of that!!!

And, I agree with your take on reality TV - I liked this show because you saw him do the work, out in the wild, and he actually got stuff working!!!
