I don't know if you can help me, but I don't know where else to go or who to talk to. Here's the situation...
Took my 2009 Challenger (SE) to my mechanic to have winter tires put on rear, and rear tires (because they are all weather and fairly new) transferred to the front. The next day, I started having problems with my car. (have been going to this mechanic for years.
First, The remote starter wouldn't start the car. Then it was taking 2, 3 sometimes 4 tries for car to start. My mechanic couldn't do anything with it, (he's old school, all electrical cars he doesn't like to mess with.)
So I took the car to Scap Motors here in Fairfield, Ct. At first they said it was the remote starter. But they would take a look at it and see if it was anything else and take care of it. They did a diagnostic and found there was a run/start delay, so they replaced a relay-micro(?) I walked out to my car, and it wouldn't start. Mechanic at dealership came out, tried to start it and it wouldn't start. He told me that the remote starter was causing the problem. Had me walk a distance away with the FOB, and then the car started. Told me to keep the FOB away from car. (seriously?!?) I left there, keeping FOB away from car, and what do ya know, I was STILL having problems with starting the car. I would try it, nothing happened except little lights for battery, engine, etc coming on, but no turn over. So I took key out and tried again. It worked. This had been going on for a while. Took car to a place for remote starters, he said the remote starter wouldn't keep the car from starting with the key. My brother tried disconnecting the battery thinking everything would reset itself. Nope, didn't work. Now not only am I having trouble starting car and with remote starter, but the radio isn't working right. It's suppose to automatically go off when you open door, and it doesn't. The display stays on, I have to push and hold the menu button for it to go off.
I was suppose to go back to place for remote starters, and he was gonna take a look at both the remote starter and the stereo, resetting them both. I can't afford to keep taking this car all over trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with it.
So this is where I am today. Last night I went to get into car, to go to work, and the doors wouldn't even open with push button key. Had to take key out and open door manually. Put key in ignition, nothing. Only the little lights came on. Headlights, radio, nothing else worked. Battery was dead. (btw, my mechanic and Auto Zone both said battery was fine, remote starter guy said needed new battery) So, this afternoon, my brother and I went out to jump the car. Used manual key to get in, pushed the button for the trunk, nothing happened. Tried sticking key in ignition, nothing, now key won't come out of the ignition. everything is dead, trunk won't open with key or pushing button inside car. We popped the hood and tried charging it where the fuses are, in doing that, the key came out ignition and little lights came back on. It took about 15 - 20 minutes of jumping the car before it would start. We let it run for a little bit, then took key out, now it's starting on first try we waiting a couple minutes with car off and started it, no problem, first try started. (But the car was warm. What happens when it gets cold tonight.) Mind you, the car sat for almost 3 days before I found it dead. When I don't have work, I don't go anywhere so it sits.
Something is draining the battery. Starting the car is still a problem. I don't know if it's electrical or if the remote starter is causing problems. As of right now the remote starter is in Valet/Mechanic mode. I don't know what to do. It breaks my heart because my son gave me this car for Christmas last year, because he was being stationed in Spain for 3 years, and he knew I was in desperate need of a car and couldn't afford to buy a new one.
Both Radio (Pioneer with Navigation and Bluetooth) and Remote Starter (Prestige) are aftermarket. Both installed in Texas, I live in Connecticut.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
