I have a quick question and hopefully I am in the right place on the forums.

I am getting a Challenger soon with the intention of using it as a drag build. I have an engine in mind to swap in but I have no idea if it fits and my search for answers led me here. Hopefully you can help.

I am looking to put in a 635ci block. I noticed the walls in the engine bay leave less empty space than the classic challengers and I have only seen as much as a 426ci put into that bay so I really have no idea.

I am new to engine swapping so apologies if I am asking a stupid easy question.

The 426 that you are referring to is probably the Gen 3 Hemi that is stroked to be that displacement so it fits with no problems. I assume when you say 635 you are referring to the Gen 2 Big Block Stroker. That engine is a wider than the Hemi that comes in the EB of the modern Challenger.

That being said, since the vehicle is to be used for drag racing, a lot of fabrication and strengthening will be needed to fit the engine and make the car handle safely. The electrics will also have to be changed.

I also moved this thread to the Drag Racing Section, since it fits there better.

Thanks for the help and moving the topic.

The 635 is actually a custom build by Steve Schmidt Racing.
It is a Donovan 4.600 x 4.750 Aluminum Block With Dart 14 Degree Heads, if that helps. It is also setup for nitrous.

I am curious about the strengthening you are talking about though. I'll have to do more research on that in general but I'm curious if the engine bay will need to be drastically altered or not.

The Shock towers seem really squeezed in and looks like it would give me trouble putting a larger engine in there. Especially with little room for anything else.

I thought I would have no trouble after seeing the drag pak challenger but then I found out it was a 426 (which is what I referred to earlier) and I almost lost hope.

Would love a success story of someone getting a 702 in there or something so I know it will work before investing the money and finding out the hard way that it won't fit.

Wish I could help out but I have no clue. Maybe you could just measure the engine with heads on it and then measure the engine bay and do some rough estimates from that?

You'll definitely need a different PCM and all that stuff to get it to work right, that is unless you're going old school with a carburetor and stuff. I would think you'd still need the PCM to work some of the stuff though.

Neat idea, not sure I know of anyone on this forum that has done something like this. I know WilliamsRT did a lot of stuff to his car and plycuda67 just recently had a blown 426 done for his car, but something much bigger than that I'm not sure.

Hope you find some of the answers you're looking for and keep us posted on your progress, would love to see how it turns out!

Yes the engine is actually a double carburetor. I like the idea of n/a with nitrous over a supercharger or turbochargers. Although I wouldn't rule out a 426 stroker with a huge turbo, if that wasn't so expensive to get together.

I just like the simplicity of a nitrous launch.

I will hopefully be going through with this and posting the pics. Would love to be in the sub 7 second club eventually.

Still hoping someone sees this though and can throw in their opinion on the fit.
