No break in on exhaust systems however most will get louder as they age and may get deeper in tone. As for the tips there might be a slight difference in sound mostly it is looks which you prefer.

Having had both I couldn’t detect a difference in tip tone. But then my hearing is probably impaired bc of running open headers for so many years - lol

Driving the car I don't think you could hear a difference maybe at the rear of the car.
