Hey guys. I have a question for 6.4 owners. Does anybody hear a slight pop or backfire when getting on it hard in sport mode while shifting with paddles? Whenever I get on it hard and shift, either 2-3 or 3-4, I can hear a backfire or pop from the exhaust. I usually shift at approx. 5k rpm's. I have tried shifting at 4200rpm and it still sounds like its backfiring.
It still $hits and gets, dont get me wrong!
I have about 1100 miles on her now. Only started driving hard after 500 miles.
Any ideas? Normal condition??:4-dontknow:
Thanks for a great forum!

I believe it is normal. I have a 6spd, and when getting on it and shifting 2-3 or 3-4 I get a little pop. I think it is just that the newer cars run so lean for emissions, with the hot exhaust and the slight break in the exhaust flow you get a little popping of unburnt exhaust. Kind of like the pop of a Harley on deceleration. I was following my wife last night, me in her Jeep, her in my Challenger just so I could hear it in traffic. she kept telling me how aggressive it sounded and I want to hear it from that perspective. when she was getting after it during the shifting I heard the pop. I know the 8spd is way faster of a shift than a human could do, but I would think it would react the same to the slight break in flow.

any time. I am not an expert, but I am always willing to try to help. Enjoy that beast. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive. I probably look deranged when driving around. I wanted the auto, but they only had manuals coming in, and I don't mind a manual so rather than wait, I went for it. Best decision I have made in a long time.

I never really heard the popping with my stock exhaust but once I installed my Solo exhaust I always hear the pop from first to second when using the paddles. I was concerned something may have been wrong but it seems the popping is normal. Mine is a A5.

I have a scat pack with the 6 speed manual, the popping or "burbling" is completely normal. Mine also does it when downshifting and backing off the throttle. Sounds kind of cool. That fraction of a second between gears when upshifting is kind of like getting off the throttle.

alright now just got up to 500 miles and for fun put it in sport mode and yea what is that pop or backfire? this is normal? I stopped at the dealer and he says its normal for the scat pack. man what power these cars have but that noise is kind of weird mainly seems like its when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd and also 3rd to 4th. new to this scat pack so just kind of wondering

I will agree, there is some popping with a SP on the 1-2 shift. Used to also happen on my 2013 RTC after I installed the Solo exhaust.

Yes my 16 SPS A8 does this also . a 4k 50 % throttle it actually hesitates 2,3,4 shift. pretty loud pop
But, at WOT It's barely noticable. 1200 mi on it now.
at 300 mi I started using sport mode/paddles and thought something was wrong. went to dealer and SRT tech said it was normal.
My brothers 15 SRT A8 acts the same

Mine makes a pretty serious boom/rap type sound between the gears when I'm really hammering on it in sport mode or track mode (also with the paddles). It seems to be a normal thing. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yep normal, was doing a little reading at halftime during a j.v. Football game and thought huh idk if mine sounds like that so when we left the game I had a few guys staring and pointing at my scat pack why not give them a little exhaust music so the short story is YES is does sound off during the shift!!! Enjoy

low exhaust back pressure while revving and motor rpm diff during shift will build a little unburnt fuel and pressure in cat and exhaust will "POP", my 5.7 does it. Tuning should fix it. Lean out the motor a bit.

To the best of my knowledge, won't swear to it.

Newbee here , ok having done some work on my stock 16 Sc exhaust , remove resernators and install a set of Carven mufflers . My car at 1600 miles sounds totally awesome. I love that raspy heavy tone especially when I'm using the paddle shifter . Over all I love the sound especially in the early morning cold start , my neighbors two houses down from me can hear the start of the car

I never noticed it on my 5.7 till I put after market exhaust. I've upgraded to a scat pack A8 and it shifts alot quicker and is hardly noticeable. I did just figure that it was due to less back pressure like you said. My stock 6.4 exhaust is louder than my Magnaflow 5.7 was so I might just leave it alone.
