Long back story to get the full understanding, so please bear with me. :4-dontknow:
Back at the beginning of December I had to head out of town during a bad windstorm because my father had just had a stroke and was in the hospital. I had just got out of town when I hit a 95 mph gust of wind that was carrying sand, rocks, sticks, etc. When the Mojave Desert gets a wind storm, it really gets a wind storm. An hour later I stopped in Mojave to survey the damage, and what I saw made me want to cry. The front of my Pitch Black Challenger looked more flat black, gray in some spots, shiny metal in others. The windshield was toast, as were the headlights. Adding insult to injury, the highway was closed through the Tehachapi Pass because of snow, I couldn't get to the hosptial and see my dad anyway. :shakehead:
Fast forward a couple weeks and my car is at a shop that GEICO works with getting the estimate done. Total repaint, glass all the way around, re tint the new glass with custom tint, new upper and lower grills, new A/C Condenser (it was beat to hell), re charge the A/C system after replace, remove the radiator and clean all the sand from between the veins, re fill the coolant, new badges, new headlights, new headlight bezels, new fog lights. $8573.00 was the estimated cost, GEICO had a fit but still cut me a check.
I was finally able to drop my Challenger off on Tuesday, January 14th. I was told it would be about a month before it would be done. On the February 11th, exactly four weeks later, the shop called to ask me if I wanted a shaded or a clear windshield because they were ordering it that afternoon. I asked what the progress on my car was, and I was informed that it was in the process of being repainted "as we speak," and that it "should" be done by the 21st (this Friday).
So as of today my Challenger has been in the shop for five weeks, and may be in there for a few more days. The shop doesn't work weekends, and they took MLK and Presidents Day off (in fact, all the shops in town did). This still seems like it is bordering on a long time to me. What do you all think?
