I have a 2011 Challenger R/T with 27,000 miles on it. Its not my daily driver, so it normally sits covered up. Especially now since its cold and wet quite frequently this time of year. This past Monday I filled up the tank, parked it and covered it up until the next time we have some good weather.

Yesterday I needed to take it to a paint and body shop to get an estimate on getting the few rock dings in the front painted and buffed out. The problem is when I walked up to the car to take the cover off and smelled a strong odor of gas. I opened up the car and it smelled like a gas station. I dropped it off at my local Dodge dealership this morning and an hour later was told that the passenger side fuel pump has gone bad and needed to be replaced. I read somewhere here in the past of someone else having that same issue. Is this a common thing to happen with these cars? Thank GOD I purchased the extended warranty or this trip would have cost me $625!!

I had my fuel pump go out after 3500 miles. The local dealer pulled both fuel pump units and replaced them under warranty. The fuel smell lasted about 40 days and I used every known trick out there to get rid of it. In the end, it just took time to get rid of the smell.

Good call on purchasing the warranty.
