Has anyone bought RIPP 3.6L performance coil packs?

If so, what do you think about them?

RIPP states they do "something" that they are looking to confirm with other installs, and will post results later...but that could just be advertising tease.

How long do stock coil packs last / how often should they be changed? I'm thinking thet're probably at least somewhat better than the stock ones, even on a non-SC 3.6L.

Asking because I'll need to change my spark plus in another 15k miles, and might want to do the coil packs at the same time.

Since Ripp isn't putting out any real world HP increase numbers (dyno pulls) I would be hesitant. Maybe you could buy them and be the first. ?

I did see a video where a set of Accel coils were installed on a 4.6 Mustang that resulted in an 8HP increase across the board. However, they didn't say how old the old coil packs were so take that one with a grain of salt. Everybody says that a coil's performance degrades with time, but I can't find any concrete evidence.

UPDATE:

Found this video, it appears that these packs are good for anywhere from 8 to 12 HP across the board. Might have to invest in a set.

I’m considering them as well... But personally, I’d like to see a power gain from someone other than the manufacturer.
If you get them, I’d love to see a before/after 0-60 time! As long as you use the same road, same outside air temp, and same weight in the car, a 10-12hp gain should cut a noticeable 0.1-0.2 seconds off your 0-60.

I don't want to burst your balloon, but a 10 HP increase is only going to be good for less than .01 second at best. Remember, these are heavy cars and we're only talking about a little 220 CID V-6. You would have to be super consistent to actually measure that in real world performance. Maybe in conjunction with a good tune, a PUG manifold and with good cat back system you can get a measurable reduction in time, but I'm thinking that the overall drivability satisfaction is what will increase.

I engineered/designed them, my brother(stainless fabricator) put the pieces together. I think it took a few months doing it in my free time?
Hardest part is the “manifold” section since it’s a hard bend off a trapezoid shaped port.

Close to the time they came out, around a month ago, I commented about them in the high-flow downpipes discussion where I had previously discussed my downpipes build. I feel they deserve their own dedicated discussion though. Hopefully someone will start one after their install.

Wow those AFE down pipes offer 7 hp for $1250 US, yikes.

I believe they helped me in the quarter mile when I took my car to the track a few weeks ago. I know if anything, they definitely helped my gas mileage. Was getting an average of 2 mpg better on the highway with just those installed and no tuning afterwards. Even drove around for a bit before and then after to see if they actually improved my mileage.

Well, I pulled the trigger on getting the coil packs. Summit Racing had them in stock and they price beat (by $1) another competitor. Shipping out tonight from OH to IL. I will also be installing the PUG Lower intake manifold at the same time. Sometime in Mid July. I have some vacation coming. Not expecting a whole lot, but it should all add up a little. And it's fun to do something to my car now that it's paid off!

I hope you post a lot of photos when you do your up grades........Following for sure.

Gonna have to wait about a week. Missing parts in gasket kit, getting returns and reshipment straightened out.

OMG. Just realized that I posted this over 2 years ago! I guess I'm not an early adopter on this one! Better late than never?

I installed the Sprintex SPS supercharger and replaced with RIPP ignition coils and now I'm getting misfire cylinder #4. Has anyone had issues with the coils or maybe I just got a bad one out of the bunch. I will replace spark plugs and maybe that will fix the issue. Maybe after installing the S/C, the car was settling in and fouled the plugs.

One poster somewhere(?) indicated he had a bad coil pack after a while with a SC. Got it replaced via RIPP somehow, haven't gotten a response on how yet.

A few Pics of my RIPP coil pack install, concurrent with the PUG LIM install...

Upper removed (which I removed a little flashing from ports):

Cleaned up LIM mounting surface (44K of deposits in there!):
257022

LIM, fuel rails and Coil packs back on:

Everything but intake resonator and engine cover. Stock TB (cleaned)...

Sorry for the dumb question, but what is the orange hose that ends by the oil filter for? I just got a used 3.6L and that hose is just "there" not hooked up to anything.

The hose I'm talking about is smaller, starts at the rear of the manifold, goes alone the driver's side of the engine, and ends up by the oil filter. There is a right angle adapter at the end of it pointing down at the engine, but yours isn't hooked up to anything either.

I think I'll get a PUG and an upper, and take my time matching the ports / cleaning up the flash.

Thanks.

It is the vent hose for the transmission, .

I have no idea what it's for, but I had some Hose Candy to cover it, so I did!
I think the future factory Twin Turbo setup hooks up to that! :p

I didn't actually double check, but the ports should line up fine. The UIM wasn't changed.
