How do I pull this off

Back in 2009, I bought a Nissan 370Z (I know, I know) but it was cheaper by quite a bit than the Challenger. Anyway, the Z has a defect which is the clutch slave cylinder located in the transmission. I took it in twice for this and they claimed it was dirty clutch fluid, got me back on the road, and it happened a third time (last Friday) a month after the warranty expired. I am tired of this and the car must go. If they refuse to fix it under warranty, the car is gone. I found a 2013 Challenger RT for $26 with 14K miles. Must sell my wife on this. Any advice? What would you pay for the Challenger (it appears to be in like new condition). Thanks up front.

The first(and it might be the easiest) is to get the wife onboard! I think this can be easily accomplished by taking her on the test drive and also letting her in on the test drive! Who knows, by that time, she may be the one that's chomping at the bit to own one! Good Luck!

The price is pretty comparable to what I gave for my '10 with 15k on it at about this time of the year, but go ahead and try to get a grand or so more off of it. It all depends on how motivated the dealer is to get it out of his inventory.

I'd start by calculating its value at kbb.com & edmunds.com. If it's a new-car dealer, in addition to retail, check the trade-in and wholesale values to get an idea of what they have invested. (If it's a used-car lot, I tend to lean more toward the Private Party price.)
I agree with bad8nti, you gotta get the wife onboard first. Even if you get the car fixed for free she has to see that the it's going to be a money pit if not already. With a trade and some haggling you should be able to bring the price down a bit more. After the test drive she might think it was her idea to get a Challenger and why didn't she think of it sooner? Enjoy the Journey! Lou.
Hey bad luck with the 370 Z if it's dealer documented ( as it seems ) I'd be playing hard ball that's not acceptable . On the challenger I went to perv at a hellcat the other day and dealer was keen as to cut the sticker price of 30k on this brand new shaker Hemi . It wouldn't surprise me to drive off in it for 27 ? . He knows I like it and it's a bargin But I want the 15 I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd ordered a car elsewhere .

A brand-new 2014 Shaker Hemi for $27K?! Holy cow, that'd be a steal.
I found my 2013 rt classic stickered for 28,000 at 23,000ish miles. I got them to go down for 26. I'm not a great price negotiator because im impatient so I imagine you can get something done with a lil mouth work.

As for the wife, I think it would be best to take it for a test drive with her, but visit some friends and family in it. The car sells itself, they will probably say positive things about how it looks. Those will set off good vibes with her to have other people gawk/make comments. Visit her closest friends in it if you can. When they say how badass she looks behind the wheel, she will probably be totally on board with it.
or get some young guys to tell her how hot she looks in it!!!!!

it's ok to play dirty...we are talking about getting you a new Challenger after all!!!!!
Get the Z fixed and sell it to a private party. You will get the most. Then you have more leverage to make a deal on a used Challenger when you walk in with a bank bag full of 100's.
Thanks everyone

This helps more than you know. I thank you all. Good advice and I will do my best. I have kids and having a 2 seater has been a challenge (no pun intended). For a while I told myself the fact that I'm building a 68 Barracuda was enough MOPAR (I also have a 66 Sport Fury 440, 66 Valiant convertible, and a 68 Charger that is rusty and needs major body work) but I also need a newer car. I have relatives in several states and going on a trip means I must be able to trust the car. Thanks and I'll get back to you and let you know what happened.
Cash talks. You should look at 2014 leftovers......you would get an incredible deal on an R/T right now.....dealers want them gone. I payed $29K out the door for my brand new 2012 R/T.

Oh, and tell your wife the Challenger has a trunk the size of Texas....you could take her shopping and fill it with anything she wants!!!!

Two more selling points you just gave yourself.....You can easily put 2 adults into the back seat of a Challenger and it is a VERY comfortable cruising/long distance car. I take mine on 400+mile round trips often...
kinda of off topic but that Shaker is a stripe delete car... very rare... you don't know the build number off hand? What state is it located in?
Sorry guys to good to be true and wasn't . The car has been there a long time I drove it a few months ago . The salesman was ( is ) super eager to see it gone so as I was leaving I just had to have one last look . It was raining and when I looked at the window I must have just seen the base price . So that won't be bought for 27 but they won't be getting 43 either , somewhere in the middle . Moparmom is correct some to be had on the 14s now . Good luck .

Back on topic . I made a suggestion to wife so ridiculous that she gave it the " yeah right mate good on ya " . I then went away did my research ( witch involved teaching myself how to use a computer ) formulated a somewhat sensible plan got all my ducks in a row . I found the right car was ready to pull the trigger and presented it to her . This put her in a bit of a tuff spot it was a bit hard for her to say no and she didn't . We have had some great times in that car it's been great for our family.

I sit here and read about wivies and thinking look how women really runs the house. Thank goodness I got mine before my wife. Hope you get what you like and she enjoys it also. funny thing is mostly women that says nice car.
Thanks

This has been as entertaining as it has been educational. I told my wife I was looking at an expensive BMW and other such vehicles in order to make this easier. Nissan called about my Z. In order to fix the clutch problem (it has gone to the floor 3 times in 7 months with 44K miles) and sometimes the fluid is gone, they are using a new "special" fluid that is supposed to fix the problem. I asked what this "special" fluid was and the service department didn't know. Many others have had the same problem and it was always the clutch slave cylinder which is inside the 6 speed tranny bell housing. It is about a $1300+ job. My warranty expired on 16 October. I had this car in for this problem in May and September of this year and my argument is, the problem was not fixed and should be covered. They want to try the secret sauce first. I am looking at a Challenger this week. I am afraid to drive my Z anywhere of distance because, once the clutch hits the floor, I'm walking home.

Yikes. How long you two been married?
My ex-wife serves as my conscious when thinking of buying a new vehicle. I just told her it was either get the oil changed in the Dart or buy a new Challenger. She just laughed and said, "It looks really nice." I know she will want to drive it next time I see her. LOL
