How long do you think?

I suspect there will be a day somewhere in the future when Chrysler offers a Hellcat crate engine. Seems to me there would be a market ranging from home built and resto rods to Challengers, Chargers, 300's and who knows what else. I don't see this till late 2016 at the very earlyest...but I'll bet it happens.

I would bet by 2016 with a "for off road use only" disclaimer.

Oh for off road only of course...hehehe
I was just thinking how nice it would be for insurance purposes...not for the power...LOL:gy:
I agree with 2016-2017, and I'll go as far as to predict it will be somewhere around $18-20,000.
Your talking Canadian I hope Rob!!

Yes ....sorry that would be Canadian....so what around 15 -16,000 US
Probably cheaper to build than buy.

I'm not so sure about that. First off...Chrysler worked with a company that I don't believe you can order this supercharger from. It is superior design in some ways to what you can buy aftermarket and was specked by the engineers at Chrysler just for the Hemi. Then there is the one of a kind heads and gaskets. Almost everything in this engine from oil squirter relocation to pistons is one of a kind. If you take the time to read this you will see that even if you could build this engine...it would be WAY expensive!!

If the 'MOPAR' marketing Dept is doing their job and has their finger on the pulse of the MOPAR community it would be stupid not to offer it. Price is always the killer for any project though.
Engine Factory has a 500 HP / 510 TQ crate 440 for $13K. Their 529 max wedge crate (600HP / 600 TQ) doesn't show a price but I'll bet it's close to $20K.
I think the Hellcat engine might be double that and out of reach for a project build that the common man would be doing unless you really have a large budget.
Maybe building the Hellcat engine is not possible. But for that amount of money someone could get close building a comparable engine. :4-dontknow:
What a fascinating article! A representation of a true engineering feat! I am blown away at the fact that Dodge let someone come in and see everything like that. Though I do believe that a crate motor of this sort will someday be made available I believe that it won't happen until after 2018.
My reasoning has to do with the idea that an inventory needs to be built up to cover existing cars and warranty issues then after a period of time private companies like Petty or Shop Hemi (e.g.) can acquire them for mods along with necessary associated items to make the Hellcat run in the car it is put into not necessarily a Challenger or Charger.
My guess is the cost of a Hellcat crate motor will be around $35K (USD). Enjoy the Journey! Lou.
A 850HP n/a Chev big block crate can be had for about $28K. The Hellcat is an all newly engineered animal from top to bottom. The engineer's at Chrysler didn't use off-the-shelf performance parts with a bored block to get the end result.....I'm guessing minimum $40K if you want one delivered to your door....JMO

Sooner rather than later would be great and even if they just sold short blocks which would allow people to buy and use the blower of their choice it would be great. However I picked after 2018, because this motor is a labor intensive low production motor and they are going to want to satisfy the demand for Hellcat Challengers and Chargers before they bother just selling the motor. I think it's going to take a few years before motor production outpaces the demand for the complete vehicle. Unless they really ramp up production.

BINGO!!!!....The price and when???...who knows...but this engine is a very special animal....not even comparable to what everyone else can sell you or build you IMO. When a big brain trust like they have at Chrysler...with all the resources they have at their disposal is given the green light on a project like this...and then told it has to last at least 100K miles of abuse...the Hellcat is what you get.

It sounds like Chrysler did to the Hellcat engine what GM did to the LT-5 for the older ZR-1's. GM teamed up with Lotus and in the end had Brunswick Marine in Wisconsin build the entire engine. If Brunswick Marine sounds familiar, it's who builds Mercury outboards. At the time they were the only company that could economically build a completely aluminum engine (heads and block) and were the experts in aluminum engine building. Everything about the LT-5 is unique to that engine, the heads are $5000 a piece. I looked into buying an older ZR-1 a few years back and re-examined my thought process when I realized I have not seen too many 1990 1995 ZR-1's running around. They also made a finite number of replacement engines. After reading the Hot Rod piece, the Hellcat sounds dangerously close to a very exclusive engine like the LT-5. I hope Chrysler does make an after market Hellcat crate engine, it would be nice to put one in my R/T….

Wow... You guys are out of touch. A complete Hellcat crate engine is already available from Mopar performance. List is around 19k. I saw this a couple of days ago.

You'll need to provide a link to this.
I guess I need to learn how to work the internet....I haven't found anywhere to get a crate hellcat.....
Apparently they are. I know a guy that works for a Mopar performance distributor and he's posting pics on FB of one they just got in for a customer.
