My wife and I got our CC license 2 years ago and honestly I have been super nervous of a traffic stop on what to say or do. My conceal carry class suggested saying first you have a license to carry before the officer says anything. That didnt feel right, in fact a lot that was said in my class felt a little off to me.

This was awesome, just had my wife watch it too. Thank you kindly!

It does seem off but here in Michigan if you fail to notify that you have a carry license it's a $500.00 fine. When I am stopped I usually say "excuse me officer but Imust inform you that I have a concealed carry license. They will either not respond to it or they will ask if you have your weapon presently with you. One officer asked my if I was going to shoot him and I responded by saying that all depends on how big the ticket is going to be. He laughed and said in that case I will let you off with a warning this time. We both laughed and then he told me I had a sharp car and slow it down next time. It's all good.

even though a carry license is no longer required in Texas, I keep both hands visible with both IDs and insurance visible in hand, before they even start talking. I clarifies the situation without there being any dangerous misunderstandings

Yep, It's pretty easy.

The officer doesn't know you from the next guy. (what would you do?)

If carrying you have choices. You can play dumb an not say a word and if the officer doesn't notice you are probably ok and move on without anything happening. If you get an officer that notices it due to printing and he gets concerned things can get sketchy.

I was stopped on my motorcycle recently out of state but with reciprocity. My hands never left the handle bars except to flag him over and tell him I had ear plugs in so I may not hear him and I was carrying. That was the last mention of a gun he and I had. In La. as stated before you are responsible to notify the officer that you are carrying if you have a permit. However it must be part of training because once approached before I can say a word they ask if I am carrying. More than once. I asked a buddy of mine if it was linked to my license and he said no, just training.

Concealed carry permit holders, where applicable and by definition, are law abiding citizens. Most individuals who will use a firearm in an offensive nature are highly unlikely to pursue and be approved for such a permit.

While there are no absolute guarantees, a LEO knows a valid permit holder is far less likely to initiate a confrontation compared to the general population.

I give them the required documentaion. I then inform them I will be envoking my constitutional right to remain silent and I wont be answering any questions. I also let them know my dashcam is recording everything. If they want to know if I have a firearm, they are free to get a search warrant.

You may want to research your state’s administrative procedures as far as duty to inform. Here in Ohio all of your ccw permits were linked to the individuals bmv info. Therefore if you had a ccw and you also had a vehicle registered in your name a message would pop up on the computer screen when your license plate or VIN number were run informing the dispatcher or officer directly that the registered owner has a ccw. In this case if the officer ran the plate prior to the traffic stop, he or she already knows that there is a possible weapon in the vehicle. This puts the ccw holder in a position of informing or not which again depends on your states law. My best advise to anyone after having been the guy in the black and white with the bright flashing lights is ; know your state laws, and be courteous. The officer is not going to get bent out of shape if you inform them that you are carrying. Nobody likes a surprise from a stranger especially when it involves something that goes bang.

In Az. one does not need a permit to carry, concealed or otherwise. It hasn't always been that way, up until a couple of years ago you needed a ccp to conceal carry. I maintain my ccp all the same just because these laws can change rapidly depending the current governor and legislature. Under a new admin. if they decide to reinstate the ccp, they can make it very difficult to obtain a new one. Hopefully, I'm grandfathered, but you never know. Az. was a solid blue state but the massive influx of west coast libs. that are fed up with their state governments over-reach have decided to bring their BS with them and try again to create their imagined utopia someplace else. In the end, they just muck up everything the same way they did where they came from
