Picked up a used LMI Frankentake IV intake off of Craigslist today for $150! Brand new they're around $250 so it was a pretty good deal! It still looks like brand new!

Turns out this particular intake was Chet's (hoyt66) old intake that he had sold to a co-worker and the co-worker put it on his Ram for part of this year and then listed it for sale when he traded his truck in a few weeks ago. What are the odds of that? Haha!

Had a little free time this afternoon so I got it installed. Took me about 15-20 minutes to do it. Everything fit great and it looks cool! Took it out for a spin and immediately noticed better throttle response over my SRT airbox setup I had on the car previously. Sounds a little louder as well when I get on it. Also feels like it pulls a little harder at WOT in the higher RPM's, but nothing crazy, but noticeable to me since I drive the car everyday.

For $150 and 15 minutes of my time I'm definitely happy with my new LMI Frankentake IV intake!

Special thanks to Chet for giving me a heads up on his co-worker Steve and for telling Steve I was a fellow Challenger buddy, think he gave me a little better deal because of that. Thanks again Chet! :wavey:

Here's a few pics of before and after...

Your welcome Carl. It's a small world isn't it? So funny that Steve used my original pic to sell it and that you picked up on that. Glad it all worked out.

Yeah I read up on this intake and they did that on purpose. Based on some testing they found there was a pocket of ambient air that would circulate in that area if you removed the lower radiator baffle on that side (from behind the lower grill area). I initially thought it was a stupid design because of the lack of a heat shield, but based on the tests they found putting a heat shield there had no effect so they just left it off.

According to Chris at LMI and based on some test results I read about on the LX forum both the Frankentake IV and AirHammer are good for 8-10 hp increase. I'm not sure how accurate that is as I have no intentions of using a dyno to verify that, but it does have better throttle response, makes some cool noises when I get on it, and it does seem to pull a little harder at full throttle now. Could all be in my head, but I doubt I'd really feel 8-10hp gain on a 375-400hp car anyway.

Mainly I bought it because it was a good deal at $150 and it gave me something to do and change on the car haha! Looks a little cooler now too under the hood.

Yeah when I bought it I coated everything with a "silica coating", It's like a glass coating and wears like iron! Love that stuff!! I put it darn near on everything.

Cool man! Yeah it definitely helps, still looks great! The filter is still like new too. Steve said he cleaned it and oiled it recently. Definitely looks cool under the hood too now.

Thanks man! I like the Mopar CAI too, just got a great deal on this one on Craigslist, couldn't pass it up.

Think you're referring to the half covers that cover the coilpacks? Those are actually 392 half covers that I picked up from the dealership. I took a dremmel tool and ground off the 392 Hemi lettering, smoothed it out, then ordered up some "5.7L Hemi" badges from Rebadge, and stuck them on using some 3M VHB tape. They stick right on using the same posts that the stock 5.7L engine cover uses.

I think you can order them pre-made from some of the vendors on here. I think Steve White Auto Parts is a vendor on here that sells them pre-made.

There is also a vacuum hose you can order from the dealership that comes stock on the 392's that will route underneath the driver's side half cover instead of over the top of the intake manifold like the stock 5.7L hose goes. Looks a little cleaner once you put the half covers on.

It's a pretty easy job though and I think it looks pretty cool. Has a sort of factory look to it still while showing off more of the engine.

There are some for sale pre-made on Ebay too. But you can do it yourself just the same like I did, wasn't very difficult, just took a little time, it was kind of fun really. You can pick up the half covers from the dealership for not too much.

You might be able to get them cheaper than that through the dealership or from a mopar site. I think I got mine for $80 or so from the dealership, but that was over a year ago now so maybe they jacked the prices up a lot more.

Sounds cool man! Good luck!
