& what happens if my fellow passengers are either smelly, to have bad intentions!!
Same thing as on a bus, train, subway, etc... You suffer
Yes, but I can get off the Train, Bus etc..
Self Driving (Uber or whatever) is not programmed to stop other than at programmed Locations.. Imagine a 16yr old girl and a crazy old man!! Is there going to be a Panic Button? Will the autonomous vehicle have continuous voice connection to the Control Center? -
Once our society gets to the point where we can't drive ourselves around anymore and must rely on 'the system', I'm sure Big Brother will be monitoring our every move.
In the case you mentioned above, Robocop would just pop out from behind a billboard and neutralize the threat.
So then it would be forcing you into public transportation. Everything be disinfected after each ride?
And as horrifying as it sounds it will become the norm . Our children won't feel threatened by it , in fact most will probably embrace it . We have no desire to live our grandparents lives ( be honest it was the depression) and our grandchildrens lives are probably unimaginable to us as technology is moving so fast . Evolution, can't stop it and IMO pointless hiding from it .
I don’t want to hide, safety was my concern.,
Number one its a long way off. Number two, it would not be an overnight change. Theyre not gonna just come collect your cars and say, ok tomorrow everyone is riding. It would be a slow progression for such a radical change. And then theres big oil. Lots of speculation. No proof. Fom the believers or non.
What are us country folk gonna do? Right now there's no bus lines or taxi service even close to my house. All we have is volunteer FD and County Sheriff. Hell, cable and natural gas isn't even available. It's Directv or nada.
Is is not now and I don't see that changing any time soon.
One of my best friend motorhead buddies is a meat cutter at a local supermarket. He has been there for 30 years. He says that at least once a week, somebody poops in the store. Various places... right in the aisles, near the deli, fruit section, on the way to the bathroom, you get the idea. And a store employee has to clean it up.
OK... so a pod stops to pick you up and.... you know. Now WTF?
This could be something that would be tied up in legislation for years.
Mmmmm, what about pedestrians , people on bicycles? Sounds great long as you don't want to walk.
My comment certainly wasn't directed at you , just a general statement.
So are you saying people will be forced into riding in cars with other people? They won't own them? Why not just make them all buses?? Why would they make vehicles the size of cars??? So funny, I can't picture that working real well out on the farm. Are they going to come out and haul the cattle to town when they need to go to the vet? Don't think they would want to drive one vehicle here to pick up three people that live about 30 to 50 miles apart. None of that sounds very well thought out.
I think they are more interested in a very highly populated area... "Sharing with a farmer and a pregnant cow"
--> Mooov'e over please..
This transition is still years away and will be done in baby steps. I'm glad I will be a worm hotel when it finally occurs.
Then there are the tractors/trucks for hauling grain, cattle, or even just taking your pickup into town to pick up parts. Which brings to mind this: you go into town and decide to buy a lawn mower, a new piece of furniture, a rather large item of anything. How does that work out? NO thanks!!!

I'm still smiling about all this because where I live it would be hilarious. There are ranchers in the Sandhills that live 50 miles from the nearest town, grocery store, gas station.
