Is the Challenger 2023 ending, a major business mistake?

I thinks It's ridiculous how Stellantis is showing those Dodge Hornet commercials, on the same basis as the Challenger/Charger, Dodge muscle previous ads. Who in their right mind is going to want a frigging Hornet, after owning a v8 mopar muscle car. They must think we are all idiots. I'd never buy one of those, or anything like that, my opinion anyway.

Maybe it’s obvious to us, but there will always be a ready market for Big V8 muscle cars (of whatever make/model), unless that market is effectively crushed by federal regulatory manipulation or explicitly outlawed by federal or state legislation. And both schemes to “de-muscle” what are clearly popular vehicles are now in event-horizon mode.

That said, those who own such cars have to realize (or should) that we are truly seeing the “Lasta the V8s!” Their days are numbered even if the final day won’t arrive for a decade or so.

“She’s the last of the V8s!“

Yes, very familiar with the MadCat! Awesome homage to the MM car, the black Pursuit Special. The best part is, unlike the movie car, the “blower” in the MadCat is real.

The builder started this thread on ChallyTalk.com detailing the building of the car. I posted in it on p.13 (#254) asking for details about how he fashioned the roof wing:

My research shows me that Dodge sales are doing quite well this year even out selling the Cadillac brand !
Anyone that thinks an over stressed inline 6 cylinder with 2 turbos is going to get better gas mileage than a Hemi V8 isn't thinking very well.
The refusal by Dodge to move on to a smaller lighter platform years ago only compounded the current issues with the MPG issues. Note that the JEEP and Durango will still be offered with the 392 Hemi . PSA aka Stellantis thinking at its very best LOL.

My daughter has a 2013 Challenger V6. Now has over 170,000 miles on it. Here's my take. This is been a wonderful car. And comparing it with my 1973 Challenger I used to have it drives a whole lot better. Plus I can pull down a good 30 miles per gallon or more on the highway. I think it's a business mistake. Instead of canceling it, I would love to see a few more models. For example a factory built convertible. Not the Chop drop. Maybe a colorful interior. I think they can sell another 250,000 in the next 3 years if they kept the same model. Heck I'd like to even see more Chrome. There's more Chrome on a Chevy Colorado than there is on a Challenger.

The thought of Dodge scrapping the Challenger and Charger literally makes me sick to my stomach. All I can say is hold on to the cars you have because they are not coming back!

Good. Chrome is for Posers. As the hardcore Jeep guys say, “Chrome don’t get you home!” 🤨

The word “chrome” doesn’t belong in the same sentence as “Challenger,“ or indeed any legit muscle car.

So all those original muscle cars of the 60s and 70s were not legit?

That is really sticking it to the Challenger owners......I don't WANT a Durango!

I hope there are some good low mileage '16-'20 Scat pack or RT 392 cars left to be had in a couple years with low miles and a decent price. My current TA 5.7 will be paid off, and I want 6.4 car to go with it. I love my car I have now and will never trade it.

Wow….

Yeah, it might not get you home, but it sure looks purty as you’re blowin’ the doors off things, regardless what it’s on. Well, unless it’s a Freightliner Cascadia or a Kia Soul…

That’s my feeling as well. I will be looking into doing the same thing.

Personally, I don't think the Challenger 2023 ending is necessarily a major business mistake. It's always sad to see a model go, especially if you're a fan of it, but car manufacturers often make strategic decisions based on market trends and consumer demand. Plus, the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro seems like a promising alternative. I understand your point, but a Camaro will never be a classic MOPAR.

You have to realize, Dodge was forced into this decision by government fiat. If they are to blame, it is by not having enough high mileage vehicles in their lineup to make fleet CAFE standards while keeping the Hemi (think Ford).
They will leave billions on the table. IMO.

skt is 100 percent correct here, it is sad when the government decides what ypou drive when they are not responsable enough to balance their budget. As a free market country, it is embarrassing to say the least and who knows how many us jobs it will cost in the long run.

it is this relentless attacks on the consumer forcing everyone to fit a mold we need to tell uncle sam to get the hell out of companies business, a challenger today likely has 100 times less emissions than the originals.
