I just read that today too. Sad to see the last of the code talkers go. I am so glad they finally got the recognition they deserved.

In 1986 I graduated Radioman School with the US Coast Guard - 22 Words Per Minute of Morse Code. In 1989 I used Morse Code for the last time when communicating with a Russian Oil Skimmer while serving to support the Valdez Oil Spill. Morse Code and the Radioman Rating in both the Coast Guard and the Navy no longer exist. Morse Code is now a hobby within the Federal licensing program for amateur radio - a dying art of sorts.....I loved this story - thanks for sharing it.

I am proud to say that some of the code talkers were from New Mexico. How many Japanese folks spoke Navajo? None!
