Yea its better in the long run
If you keep your resonators and run straight pipe where the mid mufflers were and have a set on the back end is that illegal? I’m not sure but I would assume it’d be ok. Probably best to call a shop that does state inspections and see what they say. Also I’d disagree with the delete being ghetto. Some catback exhaust sound good and some really don’t. They don’t have an old school growl, more like a misfiring weed eater.

I disagree that mid muffler delete kits are ghetto. I had a 2014 5.7 Dodge Charger and put on a Khaos Motorsports mid muffler delete kit which sounded great, had high quality components, improved performance and was very cost effective. Many reputable companies make high quality mid muffler delete kits and it’s a very appropriate option for an upgrade in sound and performance. I have nothing against cat back systems and I have used multiple Corsa, Billy Boat and other cat back systems on different cars in the past and will probably put a Magnaflow cat back system on my 2016 Challenger Scat Pack Because I like the sound.

its ghetto (to me) because it is a cheap alternative and a crude and rudimentary way of gaining a louder car, and the sound is horrible. i have a borla atak and the sound is way better than just cutting the mufflers

It really depends. If you have knowledge of what you’re doing you wont lose power and flow and have a great sounding vehicle. As far as sounding horrible I have flowmaster super 10’s on mine and it sounds spectacular.
I highly doubt you're going to run into any trouble with the laws here. We have those good ol' boys in their squatters running pure straight pipes all over the place. Besides, the rear resonators are still going to dampen the exhaust note. All you really need to worry about here, inspection wise, is passing emissions, and the mufflers have nothing to do with that. Do the mid delete, save the mufflers, if you don't like it, put them, or another type of muffler back on...just my .02

The blasting bob's are resonator deletes. If you straight pipe the suitcase muffler too, it will be LAF. I'm assuming you mean sound levels per NC law. Sure it will sound great, just very loud over 2k RPMs. I now have a Borla. Very quiet. I may actually add mufflers to my old straight pipe plus BB set up as suggested by cdahl383 when I eventually rebuild the top end.

Terry does NC have inspection stations?
SC inspection stations have been gone for years, about the only way attention would be drawn to you without inspection stations is if you do a burnout in front of an LEO.

Unfortunately in my situation I bought my 2015 R/T used, and the previous owner had installed an Flowmaster American Thunder cat back system which eliminated the rear muffling and replace the mids with the Super 40s. At first I thought it sounded good but the interior drone was horrible, it was so bad it would rattle something inside the dash board.

I decided to butcher up my exhaust and do some testing as the Flowmaster Super 40s were chambered style and sounded raspy outside the car, and I preferred a deep rumble sound instead.

I remembered my old glass pack days so I found a set of Cherry Bombs, cut out the Super 40s and replaced them with the Cherry Bombs, they sounded really good and was just the exterior sound I wanted, and they were cheap.

That was not the end of it, as I still had interior drone, not as bad as the Flowmasters at least the dash rattling had stopped, but still bad. I went through 2 cat back systems after that looking to stop the drone, and finally installed the SOLO system, with the J pipe drone canceling and that did it.

Wishing you the best in whatever you do. Ry

Before purchasing things to mod the Drive Train and Exhaust always best to check before you buy. Just because you can purchase does not mean it will be legal,
id check with local Exhaust / Muffler Shops as they have to keep within the Law on doing Exhaust changes. Also without the proper pieces one exhaust on many
modern vehicles you get bad drone, and irritating ping sounding like a Ricer Import / Tuner.

Hypothetically speaking, you could go with a modular exhaust system. Mid-deletes in place ‘till smog test time comes, put mids back in for test, pass test, then mids go out and mid-deletes go back in.
Dynomax mini race bullet mufflers sound great and are inexpensive.
And your local muffler shop will install them for a very reasonable price. Very happy with the sound on my Scat.
what we did in the 70s was have the mufflers attached to the header flange with wing nuts, cruse around town looking for a race remove the mufflers run open headers after the race reinstall the mufflers and back to cruising.
