The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending that all new cars be equipped with alcohol detection systems to prevent drunk driving accidents.
Not only recommended - the road map is set already, these will become required within short years among other "assistant systems"... Speed-limiters are even on shorter schedule (luckily, in case of need the speed limiter must allow kick-down override). With growing share of EV's the governments will face drop of tax collected on fuel sale, so they aim for integrated toll systems to charge every single mile of drive as well... Finally, Big Brother is simply everywhere.Europe has recommended the same thing.
Fair, but I think it should still be optional to have one. Just no need to mandate it.In defense of back up cameras I will say that they have a place in cars with poor outward visibility. And with the proliferation of ever larger and taller vehicles, a camera helps to spot oncoming cross traffic when backing out of a parking space that is flanked by trucks or SUV's. I still use my mirrors a lot, but for places that using the camera makes more sense I will use it too.
