Umm, what is this like my third post? Lol anyway... The car's performance really doesnt have the wow factor any more . I traded in a 2014 jeep grand cherokee limited with the hemi and i had the resonators removed (loved the sound), so i was accustomed to a quick vehicle (relatively speaking, it is a truck after all). For the jeep i had traded in a 2013 Durango RT , also with the5.7.

Cliff's note: not so happy with RT performance and Scat Pak was out of my budget. Oh and used wasnt an option the the moment.

Even though i had a test drive on the RT before purchase, knowing it had the lowest hp in its class, i figured having the same engine as in my prior two trucks , being stick shift and i was guessing a little lighter, i would notice a significant difference in speed. Then i drove my freind's Chrysler 300 with the 5.7...

Conclusion? Not a significant difference in the speed of the vehicles. While I didnt buy it to street race, it is nice to be competitive once in a while, lol.

You really cant match the RT with an American muscle car out there in its class, which i knew, i knew....

I ordered the resonator deletes last week, so it will sound sweeter.

Kill stories? You dont see much kill stories from the RT side....

I had a 75 shot on my prior 2011 Mustang, so figure i will do the same here and i will be happy...

Anyone felt the same way? I am kinda stuck with it for another year & 1/2 or 2, so might as well enjoy it... By the way, i loved the styling was the main reason of choosing it over the 5.0.

For one thing, it's well known they need to break in a little bit before they wake up. A tuner and exhaust will wake it up some also.

2X ^^^^ to the above, There are several members here the are running high 12's at the 1/4 mile with a few simple bolt on mods which is not too lame at all, check out our 12 second club and you will see.

well my r/t seems to run pretty good I think, maybe like said above get you a tuner and a filter charger and I am sure you will see a difference. I took my tuner off so the dealer could put the timing chain on and when I picked it up it would not even break the tires loose, went home and dialed in my tuner and amazing how much difference there is. not like a super charger or anything like that but pretty good

I agree and disagree. Here's why...

The R/T with the stock tune and low miles (under 3,750 miles) while quick, is not overly impressive in terms of performance. When the car is new and under 3,750 miles (might be off a little on this) the VVT (variable valve timing) is not in full effect. The computer holds back until a certain mileage, then it really wakes up and picks up a signifcant, noticeable amount of power. So if you're still under that mileage, that will explain some of the issue.

Next, the stock tune is not really that aggressive. The stock tune has A LOT of torque management built into it. On the 6 speed cars it is very noticeable in 1st and 2nd gear, and in between shifts as well as it pulls timing quite a bit between shifts.

Here's my advice. Wait for the car to wake up after 4,000 miles or so and then get a tuner from Hemifever Racing and load his custom tune on there. The throttle response will be much better, you'll have more horsepower/torque, and the torque management will be drastically reduced.

I drove my car the other day with the stock tune to the dealership and it was much slower and not as responsive compared to the race tune I've been running lately.

I think these cars respond well to basic bolt ons. Many members on here with 5.7L R/T's have gotten into the 12's and most are in the 13's which is still pretty fast IMO. It's a big 4,000lb+ car with 375-400hp, it's not going to be a Hellcat, but it's still very fast and with relatively basic mods it can really wake up.

Short of that, if you think it's that slow, you need to trade it in and get a Scat Pack. I've beat plenty of stuff in my R/T. The Scat Packs and SRT's will easily get beat by a lot of older cars with 40 year old technology that run 11's too. I know a guy that has a 1974 Nova with a 406 in it that runs 10.50's that will beat a new Hellcat. There's always someone out there that's faster. Just get what makes you happy and enjoy it!

^ So true! I can get sideways with ease with the race tune loaded. With the stock tune loaded, no can do. Torque management sucks!

I still have under 1000 miles on my 15 r/t challenger so I know its not broken in yet but its still a blast to drive. My previous vehicle was a 2012 RAM R/T (2dr, short bed, 2wd, 5.7l, 4.10 gears, limted slip rear axle) that was a fast truck but as soon as I drove my challenger I knew it was WAY faster. I've already smashed a 2012 charger r/t in a race on the highway, and my challenger will roast the tires with traction control off on asphalt without brake torquing (havent tried on concrete). When I go to pass people I fly by them and the speedo is usually somewhere around 90mph before I notice it. I am looking forward to a 2015 tuner though.

However if you own a 5.7 challenger DO NOT drive a scat pack unless you are serious about buying it. I made that mistake at the dealer I work at...it is a massive huge difference. It will make you feel like you're driving a 1.4l dart.

you are exactly right, these car are fast not as fast as a lot of them but still fast, yes you can make it faster but it will cost you so money. I enjoy mine to the fullest and will until I can get me something faster but until then I am going to enjoy my baby

Yep. They're plenty fast in stock form, but with just a tuner and a few bolt on mods they can really wake up. High 12's or low 13's is pretty fast.

The 6.4L has 110hp over the 5.7L so it's obviously going to feel a lot faster. They run mid 12's stock vs mid 13's stock in a 5.7L R/T. A mid 12 second car is way faster than a mid 13 second car, 1 second is a HUGE difference in drag racing.

I'd love to get into a new Scat Pack myself, but no way I can justify getting dinged on trading in my R/T and then having to fork out another $18-20K. I can see why a lot of people do it though, they're really sharp cars that are really fast.

I stay away from the dealership for that said reason if I drive it I might want it, but I like my RT but keep in mind I'm cruiser and my RT can get me out of a bad spot if needed. the other night I got her for a ride to stretch her legs and this guy in a crown vic wanted some HEMI so HEMI he got then he stopped and said man I didnt know you had the HEMI, I told him dont try the Black Lady (my car's name)cause she's a freak. I think dont know if I will do any profromance mods no really my thing but who knows. I just love and enjoy this car and 375hp or whatever it has is great for me.

I'll say this, I do wish Dodge would've bumped up horsepower a bit, maybe close to $400.
In all honesty though, the R/Ts are bangs for the buck & that's not just the car but maintenance, insurance, gas, tire, & oil lol. Yeah a Scat Pak would be nice, anything SRT would but it's more money. Got to pay to play. The R/T is a great value, great performance, & you'll still have lunch money left over.

I own a Mustang GT....waaaay faster than my R/T. BUT, the driving experience I get from my Challenger can't even begin to compare to the Ford. That said....would I like it to go faster?? Hell Yeah! So I'm thinking Super Charger.

I had the RT 5.7 and went for the 2015 SRT. 392 6 speed There is a little difference in HP but these cars are not for Drag racing without help. Once you leave 1 st to 3rd it is done. 4 5 6 are there but just to say for fuel mileage. I want to turbo it if I can find someone who makes them for the 15. I guess the computer is different in each year they come out. I will just live with it because it is a true muscle car that kept it looks from yester year. It is a keeper.

I read and read about "tuners", but it seems to be just like CAIs , "up to xyz horsepower".

Does anyone have any dyno numbers handy or where i can find them; tuner vs no tuner for example? Im definitely not spending $8k on a supercharger.. Might as well eat $8k in depreciation right now and trade in for a scat pak.. Which isnt happening.

Those Mustangs really suprised me!
The new models are up in the 400s HP, the 2008 was like 260 HP in the GT.
Dodge should've took note of that and bumped the R/T to about 4-something. The 392 starts @ what 485 hp?
