My review for Straight Pipes

In the Summer this year I opted to change my stock exhaust. Probably the best mod I've done so far.

I went to my local performance shop and had them take out the rear muffler and run straight pipe in their place. I left the resonators. Put some custom dual chrome tips on them.

1-10 I would give them a solid 7
Cruising around town is awesome. I love the sound and how loud it is.
Highway is a pain in the a. I can't stand the drone. Some days it doesn't bother me too much, but there are days where it's almost EMBARASSING. I just want to cruise and not have to hear this loud high pitched humming. I'm just sitting there irritated thinking of how annoyed other drivers might be. It also happens if you're stuck in a certain RPM and don't shift out of it. Drone comes in at 60-70'ish. After that you can't notice it much, but 60-66 is horrible, which is basically the norm for highway speeds !! Also, if you don't let the car warm up before driving, it'll sound just as bad and it's just a constant high pitched drone-like sound until your engine warms up.

I love the tone of it and how loud it is…but when I take it out in the Spring i am DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY going to put another exhaust on it so I don't have any drone. I would'nt say I regret putting on straight pipes though. If you don't mind drone, I highly suggest doing this. It only cost me about $225 at my local shop which is a fraction of what you'd pay for a name brand exhaust.

Hope this helps some of you out.

In summary:
- Drone is annoying
- Drone when engine is not warmed up
- Drone is real bad from 60mph-70mph
- Awesome sound and tone when you step on it (in my opinion)
- LOUD
- 10x better than stock

Unfortunately you are going to confuse 90% of the board with your description of what you did. You removed the rear mufflers, but left the resonators. You know the resonators are the "rear mufflers" right? Did you remove the resonators in the back and leave the mufflers(middle of the car)? If so, yes, you will have drone but can't really call it straight pipes(resonator delete). If you removed the mufflers(middle of the car) and left the resonator, then you shouldn't have too much drone.
Well now I'm confused.

I'll have to look under the car next time. I want to say I took the mufflers out. Because I'm almost positive I didn't have them take off the resonators.
Solo makes a nice straight pipe system for our cars. Complete with j pipes for no drone..sounds excellent. And if you want you can swap the straight pipe for there mach x muffler. There interchangeable

The mufflers are located in the center of the car.
The resonators are at the rear of the car.

It sounds like you removed the resonators.
I see you are listed as having an automatic, one thing that makes drone worse is when the car switches to MDS mode. That is 4 cylinders instead of 8. By turning MDS off with a tuner or running in auto stick you can sometimes help alleviate the drone. It won't get rid of it entirely but should help.
There's also a thread here about lining the trunk with sound dampening material... I expect that would help as well.
The resonators you removed take care of the drone, especially on automatics. This is a common mistake and can be fixed easily for minimal dollars.
I'm not sure padding in the trunk would help.

I thought it might...try a quick run in your car with the back seats down. I run the Corsa Xtreme catback and in that situation it's kind of annoyingly drony... not drony with the seats back in place. We may have a member on that other thread giving it a try... be interested to hear the results.
I just installed Blastin' Bob's glasspack reso delete kit (GP250CE) on my 6 speed.
They are nice and rumbly, just a little drone in the 1600-2000 rpm range, and a good sound at full throttle. Just right.
The straight pipes are just too much for me.
In case you're interested in the sound:

I really like how that sounds! What does it sound like at full throttle? Any popping on decel?

How much for the pipes and install?

I keep this picture around just for this recurring question. #9 on the picture is listed by Mopar as a resonator and pipe. If you look inside one, most of them have some type of chamber and j-pipe setup to help cancel unpleasant frequencies. The exception is some SRTs have a perforated pipe inside. Either way, it's sole purpose is to shape the frequencies of the exhaust. The mufflers don't really change the frequencies much, but just reduce the volume.

It sounds GREAT at full throttle!
I hear no popping on decel.

I paid $175 for the pipes, they were on sale!
I noticed they are back to their original price of $202 now.
Muffler shop charged me $80 to install.

Hope this helps.

I've checked around on some other videos and it seems like the Magnaflow glasspacks are my favorite in terms of sound and minimal drone. If I ever do end up changing my exhaust around I'm pretty sure it'll either be with Solo Mach X or with these Blastin Bobs Magnaflow glasspacks, really love the sound of both of them and the price is realistic. Paying $1,300 for a catback just seems like a bit much.

Your car sounds great man, I'd be happy with that setup too!

Did you notice any change in performance after the install? There are lots of threads out there about power loss after installing Blastin Bobs on cars, but I believe those are the straight pipe resonator deletes, not the glasspacks. Just curious if that affected performance either positive or negative?

To be honest, it just feels as good and strong as ever.
I don't boot my car around much at all. I wasn't looking for any gain, hopefully there is no loss.
If there is I certainly can't feel it.

I'm with you on the money....
My Hurst Challenger had a $1200 Magnaflow catback that didn't sound nearly as good as this.
