New exhaust tips have significantly reduced drone

Since I first got my Challenger, I've been wanting to throw a set of quad square tips on her. But I refused to pay 100+ for mopar quad tips. After almost a year of waiting, I finally gave up and went on eBay to purchase some quad round tips. That's when i saw them!! A set of quad square tips. No brand name, and coming from China, these tips were priced at 29.00 but they accepted my offer for ~25.00. A week and a half later, and they were at my door. Not only do these tips look good, but they have significantly reduced drone. Idk if it's because these tips stick out further than the stock tips due to my blastin bob reso delete, or If it's because the tips are slanted. Or even if it's because of the tiny hole in the bottom of each tip, but now, the drone in my cabin has gone from a literal vibration that you felt when mds kicks in to a soft hum from the rear of the car now. Now the exhaust noise sounds like it's coming from the trunk and not directly under your feet. The tips also change the exhaust note on the outside, as now under moderate acceleration, if I roll the windows down and listen, I can hear a soft ping. No big deal to me. Best 65.00 total after installation that I've ever spent!!

Sorry about the multiple posts. The Z and Safari on my i6+ will not play nicely with each other

They look great! I've heard that about quads cutting down drone. Gonna get a set myself.
I first did the mid-muffler delete and while the sound was good I still wanted more but I also wanted the looks of the mopar quads. I did that next and I also thought it enhanced the sound a little. I had no drone in either case so I cannot chime in there.

I have now put a Solo catback with square tips and love that sound.
You and I have similar tastes Brother! Black wheels, blacked out tail-light covers and quad tips. Wow - I'm so jealous because I paid around $200 for my MOPAR quad tips. Guess that embossed "MOPAR" on the tips costs more!

I can't figure how the tips would have anything to do with vibration and drone unless your previous ones were not adjusted properly and touching up against the car? I'm on my 2n'd pair of tips (bought some for my previous R/T) and neither one made a difference in noise. I have Blastin' Bobs resonator deleter kit and my car is loud! Wife hates it so I have to up-shift as soon as I can when she is riding because if I get the RPMs up too high, the car drones!

BTW, how do you have your rear covers attached? I've tried 2 different types of velcro double-stick and 2 types of silicone caulk and they still pull loose. Especially when we have a hot Illinois summer day and the son shines on them in a parking lot...

There was a post back a few months ago where I think it was BadGrandpa said something about how the exhaust tips size...shape and angle was the biggest reason for the "drone" many people have. He even asked for anyone to try what he was saying and report back here on the Z to validate what he was saying. Well...nobody ever did and that thread had a quick death. There is a "I told you so" due here somewhere.
I have to concur. I recently added the mopar quad tips to my reso deleted RT. I noticed almost immediately that the drone was less with the quad tips. I dont know if it is the size, weight or length but it made a difference for sure. And my stock ones were definatly not rubbing or touching as mentioned above.

No covers.. Vht niteshades. TheY are dark enough to be covers tho lol. I'm switching it up soon tho. Car show season is quickly coming upon us. Custom taillights have been designed, now just need a good warm day to work on them.
I think the drone went away due to the weight change on the exhaust. Just like the guy that placed weights on his exhaust and it went away. Nice find!
Have to agree quad tips do look great.
Maxedwell I have the exact same tail lights covers as you got them for Xmas, yet to use them in the heat of summer. so they fall off kyoiur car?
please post a link to these tips, sounds like a great deal
Come this spring this will have to be my next mod after reading this. I always liked the look anyway.

The link. Looks like they're selling fast. Took about a week and a half for them to come in
It looks like they're a bit different and slightly longer and that they attach differently. Am I correct? And doest it matter much?

Any decent exhaust shop should have no problem with it. At the time of install, I had blastin bobs glass packs, so they had to do a few minor modifications due to space. But if your resonators are already deleted, any shop should have no problem. Or if you have mufflers back there, a few small modifications can make them fit
