Ordering a 2016 Hellcat

Hello - As stated in my newbie thread I do not have a challenger as of YET. However, will be ordering a hellcat once taxes are done so by March 1st. Talked to the dealer this week and they informed me that I can order a 2016 now.

However, they also said that it will take up to a year to get it in. Didn't sound like if it were a '15 or '16 the wait would still be a year. I was wondering if there is anyone with experience with ordering one. Is this one year wait accurate from your experience?

Well I ordered on the first day, Sept 9, 2014 and I still do not have build date so they could be correct.
They are just now building the 2015's, probably be September or October before they start with the 2016's.
No 2016's, you must be ordering the 2nd lot of 15's.

I think your dealer is jerking you around.

My dad has been through about 5 dealers and they all yanked his chain along until he started talking to SRT directly. Each and every time, his order was basically BS. The dealer had no allocations or had already sold their only one and wasn't REALLY going to get another any time soon.

He HOPEFULLY, has lucked out as one of the original dealers he contacted called him up with their next car available and he got a VIN within days and has confirmed with SRT that it atleast belongs to the same dealer he is now dealing with. He was even able to confirm it is finished being built and awaiting to be placed on the train to Tennessee.

I wish you luck! I can't believe the underhandedness that comes with some of these dealers.
Yeah, there is no such thing as a 2016 model Hellcat just yet.

It was said above, 2016 models usually come out September/October time.

The dealer is correct in saying that you could be waiting up to a year, Chrysler are really backlogged with these vehicles. The last figures I was informed of in terms of total orders so far was 7,000.
Confirmed and and got my name on list today for 2016 hellcat. It's basically to get in line and put 5k down. Figured if I got to wait a year might as well he in line for the 16's.
Update... So I called back and asked again to make sure the preorder is for the 2016. The sales guy came back to me and said sorry no this was for a 2015. I then said well you told me you can pre order a 16 now hence the reason for me ordering now. So the next question was what date can you preorder a 2016 as I asked earlier this week. He is checking into this and will call me back. Glad I confirmed yet AGAIN. So depending on when I can preorder a 16 I may end up saying the hell with it and still ordering now for a 15. More to follow.... I suppose if it is September or later for the 16 I will move forward on the 15 now.
good luck on the new car. it sounds great. i wouldnt mind having one myself but a little low on funds
My guess is you won't be able to actually order a 2016 until sometime this summer. They may be happy to take a deposit and put you on a waiting list but it will be sometime until the actual order banks open.
Yeah, the spec for a 2016 model isn't out yet. It is likely that it will remain unchanged, but you never know. The order banks for the 2016 models usually open around Sept/Oct, but can be as late as Dec/Jan, The 2015 Charger Hellcat was an actual 2015 release date, not a 2014.

Anyone can be put on a list for a 2016, but you certainly cannot order one anytime soon.

My best advice would be to get your name down for a 2015. They are so backlogged it is unlikely that you will get it anytime soon, more than likely, you will be looking at late 2015, early 2016 at best.

I'm pretty sure the dealer is not jerking me around unless the fact they have gotten no allocations is considered jerking me around.
As long as you're not putting money down, sure have them order you whatever car you want.
Good Morning,

I was jerked around by dealers throughout the entire process...right up to signing for the car. I did not pre-order, I searched the internet for dealers that had Hellcats ACTUALLY on the lot and asked if they were pre-sold or not, really on the lot or not, MSRP plus how much (or not), and finally found one in Orlando, FL. I got the "straight poop" over the phone about a negotiated price (the Hellcat had been sitting while four others sold...because it was Brite White), talked to the Sales Manager for re-confirmation of availability, sent them a copy of my Driver's License, registration for my trade and proof of insurance so they would hold the vehicle.

After a seven hour trip (one way)...THEN the negotiations started. They said they needed to make $10K on the deal. According to Chrysler reports I've read, they already make $5K if they sell MSRP...anyway, I got hammered, but with "respect", and closed the deal (1030 at night).

The moral of this slice of history is pre-orders probably will get you frustrated...if you really want one...you have to go find it; you will be glad you did. It is a treasure hunt with many false doors...stay engaged and ask the right people the right questions. If you are zeroing in on a color, remember others have too. This is one case where I took what I could get, it was originally not what I would have normally chosen, but after 30 seconds behind the wheel...IT JUST DIDN'T MATTER...

Hope this helps,

I agree totally. You control your own destiny!

Yes it does help because it makes me realize I'm not willing to go through all that hassle and still pay over MSRP for a Hellcat and additionally compromise on the color and options I want plus the extra cost of travel and so on. There are too many other good options out there if I'm burning up to do something right now and can't wait.

Glad you got the deal and car you wanted.
Here is my situation.... I really didn't want to get one until September of this year to give me time to save a bit more money and wait for my yearly bonus that I get each Septmeber. However, after learning about the wait I figured I'd order now and so I don't have to start the process in September. I really wanted the car in like a burnt Orange or maybe the Plumb Crazy Purple but we all know that isn't an option. Knowing this I'm going with the Pitch Black Clear coat which should look pretty nice. And yes I did order so I can get in line on the list for a '15. It doesn't sound like they will have the orange or purple for the 16's from what they were saying. I told them I'll be highly upset if they do have those color options when they are released. Since I have bought 4 other vehicles from this sales guy I only had to put down $1000 right now. Later this summer I need to get them an additional $4K for a total of $5K down. Planning to put a total of $15 - $20K down once the car comes in.

All day yesterday I tried to get the wife to talk me out of it and she just kept saying if that is what you want then do it. SO I did! :)

Funny story! We went to a movie last night and it kept going through my mind if I should really be doing this right now. It's a lot of money... Then when we walked out of the theater there was a all Black RT parked smack dab in front of the theater with blacked out wheels. I told my wife that that right there is a sign! I feel much better now! :)

Here is what I ordered:
2015 Hellcat
Exterior Color - Pitch Black Clear Coat
Interior - Black /Ruby Red
Uconnect with Nav

So now I wait.....

Can anyone tell what the hold up is on getting these cars built,is it some type of parts shortage, engines or what. There is defiantly a problem I just dont know what it is.
