I don't like taking my precious Challenger into a parking garage. It least around my 'neck of the woods, they're tight little parking spaces inviting all manor of door dings and dents. If I know I'm going to one, I take my Kia. Is it just me? Anyone else out the feel the same? Share your story.

Parking garages???? What are those? I don't live near any of those, but if I did, my car wouldn't be in one!

Though I share your phobia about parking in a parking garage, I have had to on one occasion when my wife and I went to a wedding. The garage attendant (valet) let me park my Challenger and he had me park next to a car that he said the owner was away for an extended time. The layer of dust on the car led me to believe the guy had skipped town. When it was time to leave the valet let me move my car. I tipped him well.
I wish I had not used up my photo allowance for this next story but at a parking garage in Columbus, Oh I found a spot that had two open spots, one next to me and one adjacent. I went into the mall cringing the fact that someone was going to park next to me. The wife and I came out about 2 hrs later and large candle cones were placed in the spot next to my car and in the adjacent spot. I never did find out who my guardian angel is but I did snap a pic.
Enjoy the Journey! Lou.

A parking garage is just like any other parking lot. I park over the line at the end of a row, far away from the Neanderthals. Otherwise, no way.

I bought a 2002 Subaru Outback beater for just this reason. I use it for parking situations where I wouldn't want to take my Challenger. That would include parking garages, mall parking, and going to the stadium.

If I'm not on my way to a car show, 99 times out of 100, the Ram goes if I have to park in a parking lot.....Many of you know how I now feel about hotel parking lots.....

However, when we go on vacation, the Challenger goes to the third floor of the lot where my husband works, backed up against a concrete wall. The hubby parks his Tahoe next to it and we take a cab to the airport. I'd rather risk a parking lot ding than three feet of seawater in the car....

My wife parks in a parking garage at work. They are worse than an open parking lots in my opinon. Even Handicap spaces are not exempt from inconsiderate drivers. Typically handicap spaces have extra wide spaces for van accessibility with electric chair lifts, and I cant tell you how many times we have people parking in between spaces. I write down tag numbers, take a photo, and forward to security. So far she's had two dings in two years. One looks like they scraped the door with a bumper over $1000 to fix. Makes me question how does this happen?

I lost my first SUV in Hurricane Wilma-seawater halfway up the gas pedal. Flooded enough for the safety window feature to activate....

And you saw what Sandy did to Rockaway......

Parking garages have smaller spaces to increase the amount of cars they can accommodate just for the increase in revenue. I have to throw in a big no-no to letting my car go to a valet attendant as well. It aint happening.

Try to park against a concrete wall or the last spot. The concrete wall is the best as you can pull close to the wall and exit out the other door . The main hazard about a parking garage are the angled spaces on an incline. A car door will open and automatically swing down and hit the car next to it if the person fails to catch it. This happened to me in a rental car so I always park on the top floor and NEVER park down an angle from another car.

I've rented cheap rental cars when I had to go to public events and use parking garages and crowded parking lots, cheaper than a door ding.

That stuff never happens in the city-owned parking garage where I work.

Along with key-card access, it's managed and patrolled regularly by a private firm. Any infraction invites a $25 ticket. (From personal experience, they'll even sting you for parking too far over the line, infringing on the wasted space in a corner. :i_rolleyes:)

Three things I never do with my Challenger: Park next to anyone, use a parking garage and never, ever, use valet parking. Too many idiots in the world that have no consideration for other peoples property.
