After using this calculator online, and punching in the numbers, is it true that a mustang 5.0 is faster than a SRT 392 because it weighs 600 pounds less ?

Also the GT500 Shelby has a higher power to weight ratio than the Hellcat ?

Again this is just if everything is stock.

Guess i was just a bit bored on the computer and wanted to see factory car specs.

Judging by the numerous track videos on Youtube, I guess it depends a lot on who has control of the go pedal...........
ya im just speaking between the cars, no drivers or mods or staying at the power curve most of the race.

I am not sure because I am not the smartest at this but I think this is right.

Power to weight ratio is only one part of the car, you then have to include the transmission(auto or manual), rear gears, how many gears, solid axle or independent axle, awd or rwd or fwd, and probably other stuff I don't even know.

Power to weight ratio will usually determine it, though I think the 8 speed Hellcat would beat the GT500

Don't forget the driver's weight! That's why Dodge Boy beat me in our drag race. He weighs like 100 lbs. and I weight like 500lbs. Lol!!! :gy:

Tires as well. Power doesn't mean anything if you can't plant it or control it regardless of what you're driving.

wait a minute, when the HP is displayed example hellcat 707HP, is that only coming from the engine, and they don't count type of gears, differential axle or transmission ?

I saw a late model Mustang 5.0 running low 8's in the 1/8 mile last time I was at the local track. He was running either slicks or drag radials. I don't know if it was stock or not, I suspect not. I know he ate my lunch.

If he was running low 8's with DR's more than likely he was probably stock.

Low 8's in the 1/8 mile is probably like mid 12's in the 1/4 mile. Must have had some bolt ons or something, they typically run 12.8-13.2 in stock form from what I've seen.

Generally you can use the factor 1.56 to estimate 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile ET and a factor of 1.27 to estimate 1/8 mile to 1/4 mile MPH. For example, 7.95 at 88.25 mph in 1/8 mile would be roughly 12.40 at 112.07 mph. It's rarely exact, but generally pretty close for most applications. Some cars like twin turbo setups might pick up a lot more on the big end so it depends on the setup.

I don't care for 1/8 mile racing much, I prefer 1/4 mile. You can really tell if your car is running right or not on that last 1/8 mile because it's all brute power at that point in high gear most of the way.

The new 5.0's are fast for sure, but it seems like the 392's have the edge if we're talking stock vs stock. Once you start modding it's just a matter of money and traction haha!

You pull forward a bit.

Do you realize that many of your questions can be answered if you go to the track a few times just to observe.

Definitely pull forward out of the water. Otherwise you'll just sit and spin the tires in the water and sling water all over in your wheelwells which will then drip down onto your tires down the track. The track guy will help you with where to back up and pull up, etc.

Oilslick is right though, if you just went to the track as a spectator once and kind of walked around and checked things out you'd learn a lot. More than willing to help out here but that's really the best bet, just go there and observe. If you can bring a friend that goes to the track now and then that would be even better, they could give you a heads up on everything, etc.

It's not that complicated though and people at the track are generally cool and will help a new guy out if you're asking for help. Main thing is to be safe and have fun!

actually I forgot the main thing, Horsepower is fantastic but means nothing if you don't have the torque to go with it, and thank you I did forget tires

Also yea I am not really sure where the 707 is coming from, it's suppose to be the engine... Though just about every company I have seen that dyno the car has done around 635 whp with the 8 speed and add about 12% for lost, the engine is giving 722hp at least(whp 591 torque). Dodge has a bad habit of underrating their vehicles hp lol

info from Motortrend Article
