So my wife got me the straight pipe blastin bobs kit for christmas, and is paying to have it installed. The guy is going to be welding it instead of using the clamps. He gave her a quote of $140 for install. Is that about right? Thanks for any help.

I just had mine installed 3 days ago for $100.
He used the clamps but I don't think that should make any difference in price.

not familiar with the kit, but, any exhaust that fits well shouldn't be more than about $100 to install, and personally I would go with clamps over weld. Almost every welded install I have seen rots off prematurely. I think the extreme heat effects the anti corrosion coatings on the metal and causes them to rust out early. With clamps, no heat or chemical reactions to cause problems. I know welds done properly don't usually leak, but I have been in the auto repair business for 25 years, and have seen very few issues with properly sized clamps leaking either. Just my unsolicited $.02 worth. Enjoy your new pipes however you have them put on, should sound great.

I may just put them on myself. Spend that install money on a set of rhino ramps and a chain cutter. I have never cut exhaust before so it is making me nervous as hell. I may just mark of the pipe where to cut it, take it to a shop and have them throw it on the lift and cut the pipe. They shouldnt charge much at all for that. Then just drive it home and do the rest.

Thanks for the tip. Do you line the tips up first then clamp them, or go back and forth adjusting? Also where it says to measure 7 inches from the center of the bend then 7 1/4 on the other side, how do you find the dead center of the bend? This is something that I can tackle myself I just want to make sure I do it right. Thanks again for any help.

When you get under the car and look at the bend you will see a crease in the center. This is the pinch point. That is where I measured from. If in doubt , CUT LESS as you can always take a little more off. When it comes to aligning the tips, DO NOT tighten and clamps. You will need to make adjustments. When the length is satisfactory, then gently start tightening clamps. Once everything is tight you move to the tips. A second set of eyes helps so you can adjust tips and tighten. If you have any issues feel free to hit me up. It's a Suprisingly easy job.

I have no experience in exhaust and I did it within 2 hrs on a lift. Would have been quicker if I had a tool to widen the pipe easier. In the end, I wouldn't pay anyone to do it.
I would have liked to do it myself, but my back had different ideas.....

I can't do a lot of the small things that used to be fun and easy.
Wrenching on my back under the car is out of the question.
Under the hood, not so bad.
